ROTC offers challenging summer If you were bored and without a job last summer, and are worried about facing the same thing this summer, or have no idea what you'd like to do when you graduate, then Army ROTC has an obligation free program for you. The program is six weeks long and is called ROTC Basic Camp. Not to be confused with basic training, also known as "Boot Camp," ROTC Basic .Camp is shorter, consists only of ROTC cadets and the attendees are under no obligation to the Army, and sign no contracts. Basic training is 9-9 1 'A weeks long and is attended by members of Army National Guard and U.S. Army reserve members. ROTC BAsic Camp is held in several sessions at Ft. Knox, Kentucky which is about 35 miles south of Louisville. The training is fast-paced, rigorous, and challenging. It entails a multitude of military skills in cluding: military map reading, land navigation, rifle marksmanship, leadership techniques, individual and unit tactics, communications, first aid, drill, parades and ceremonies, and of course physical training, and military courtesy and customs. This year's attendees will earn over $7OO for their short visitto Ft. Knox, free transportation to and from camp and free room and board, which is in itself an interesting and fun experience in military living. This article is written to offer you anopportunity and a challenge that you may not have been aware of otherwise. If you are a freshmen or sophomore and this sounds appealing to you, it might be worth your while to pick up an application for ROTC Basic Camp from Major McDavid or Captain Donahue in the ROTC Office. If you're still not sure, just stop in and feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like. They're here to serve you. If you're still not interested, but are seeking financial aid and having difficulties raising money for next term, the most important thing you can get out of your trip to Ft. Knox is a two year full-tuition scholarship which pays for books, and also provides you with a subsistence check of $lOO per month for your junior and senior year of college.
