The Lady Cubs finished with an overall record of 5-7 which includ ed impressive victories over Thiel College, Westminster and SUNY- Fredonia. “I feel terrific about it,” said head coach Pam Fischer. “This year was a highly successful season from all aspects. “We had a real together team who worked well with each other and responded to each others needs.” Fischer thought highly of the freshmen on this year’s squad which she attributes to much of the team’s success. “We had an exceptional group of freshmen Zimmerman appointed to NABC committee continued from page 12 posal, will initially hurt the in coming freshmen athletes who thought getting a scholarship for basketball would be easy. Zim merman feels, “In the long run it will be beneficial to the athletes.” It is proposals such as these (H) (A) (A) (A) (A) who had a really positive in fluence and great attitudes,” Fischer explained. In addition to the freshmen, junior and team captain Toni Lumley paced the Cubs with the best singles record, 8-3, playing in the third position. “Toni’s a hard worker, a fighter and a player the team could always count on,” said Fischer. Also with a winning singles record was Melissa Mitchum who posted a 6-5 ledger in the fourth slot for Behrend. The first doubles team of Sharon Dollard and Kelle Cour son paced the Lady Cubs with a 7-3 mark. Lumley and Mitchum, playing in the second doubles position, finished with a 6-4 record. Fischer described Behrend’s 6-3 which make it important for a coach to get involved. Zimmerman believes his ap pointment to the committee will be helpful to Behrend’s basketball program. He has already received calls from coaches in Europe who want to set up games. Zimmer MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH Eastern and Gray Ave. Phone 899-6386 The Rev. The Lady Cubs captured all three doubles mat ches after the scored was tied 3-3 after the singles competition. “Westminster is always a tough team who usually got the best of us so that was a rewarding win,” said Fischer. Another highlight of the season for Behrend was the home opening 9-0 thrashing of Thiel College which took place on Sept. 17. Looking to next year, Fischer is hopeful that the one, three, four and five position players will return as well as a “strong” recruits making the prospects of women’s tennis at Behrend even brighter next fall. man is meeting some important people in the basketball world and this helps Behrend when they need to find opponents and many other times. Serving on the NABC is quite an honor for Zimmerman and a plus for Behrend basketball. TROUBLED? NEED TO TALK? WE CAN HELP...WE CARE ABOUT YOU!
