sport Folga named men’s baseball coach The Collegian September 26,1985 Page Twelve by Paul Kitchen Collegian Staff Writer When it comes to baseball Mike Folga knows what he’s talking about. Recently hired as Behrend‘s men’s baseball coach, Folga has been involved with the sport 23 out of 30 years of his life and has seen action from the little leagues to the professional circuit. Behrend’s assistant baseball coach from 1977-80, Folga graduated from Erie Cathedral Prep in 1973 where he earned second-team, all-city laurels as a catcher in his senior year. After one season of playing ball at Mer cyhurst College, Folga transferred Athletic trainer, Rose, becomes Intramurals Directo by Pat Schlipf Collegian Staff Writer Sarah Rose, who spent the past two years in school at Mercyhurst College, finds herself a very busy person in Behrend's sports depart ment. In 1981, Folga turned semi-pro via free agency and spent the next one and a half seasons with the Erie Cardinals. After his contract expired he took a sales engineer ing job in Pittsburg but decided to return to school in an attempt to earn a B.S. degree in Sports Medicine. Folga would have graduated from Mercyhurst College last spr ing but was pleasantly interrupted in February by a call from the Pit tsburgh Pirates’ organization to pointed Behrend's athletic trainer but she has also taken on the responsibility of directing the in tramural sports program. Also, before coming to Behrend, Rose worked as a nurse and lab technician at Hamot and 10th & Peach, Erie, PA report to spring training in Florida as a trainer. This led to a job as head trainer with the Prince William Pirates of the Carolina League, Pittsburgh’s top Class A club. Although an obviously busy man, Folga found time to play in the Glenwood League for 12 years and pursue other interests such as rugby, water and cross country skiing and tennis. Folga stated that his goal was to begin “working towards rebuilding a program” and that he was “looking forward to teaching the team as well.” Osteopathic (now Millcreek Com munity) Hospitals and also West Virginia University. On the same day Rose was call ed about the athletic trainer’s position, was interviewed and then hired. “I was shocked that I was hired so fast,” said Rose. Intramural softball season came to an end Tuesday with flag football beginning the day before (Monday). Intramural golf will be played at Gospel Hill if there are enough participants.
