MARCH 1,1985 Tucker And Kitchen Run For Erie School Board by Greg Rathbun Collegian Staff Writer Eva Tucker, assistant professor of geoscience, and Behrend stu dent Michael Robert Kitchen are running for election to the Erie School Board. Four positions are available on the nine-member board and Tucker and Kitchen are two of the 16 candidates running. The Erie School Board establishes cur riculum, graduation re quirements, hires all Erie school personnel, levies taxes, and im plements its policies. Tucker has been on the school board for four years. He believes that change and new ideas are necessary. He has also helped ex pand summer school to contain grades 1 through 12 and has helped expand night school opportunities. Kitchen, an eighth semester general arts and science major, gives three major reasons for run ning: to maintain the quality of some of the programs, to continue emphasizing the basics (hard maths and sciences) while em phasizing the liberal arts more, and to end the humanistically biased educationand bring back a sense of morality into the public schools. Kitchen also favors the applica tion of creation science along with evolution, and prayer in school. He believes in textbook reforma tion and would like to see an end to ‘values clarification’ classes in schools. Kitchen said, “Our children belong to our parents and not to the state.
