Financial Aid There are three types of financial aid available to Penn State students: grants, loans, and work. ,GRANTS are gift money that heed not be paid back. A LOAN is low in terest money that must be paid back. WORK is available as a form of aid whereby students earn aid in exchange for work. Just as there are three different types of aid available, there are also three different sources of aid. These sources are THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, THE STATE GOVERNMENT AND PENN STATE UNIVERSITY. Listed below are the various aid programs available at Penn State and their requirements: PELL GRANT Major grant available to undergraduate, degree-seeking students, enrolled at least half-time through the federal government. Grants usual ly range from $135 to $l,BOO per year. PHEAA GRANT Grant available to eligible Pennsylvania residents who are degree-seeking and enrolled full-time. Students from the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, 'Maryland, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont should check with their state governments concerning possible state grants. NDSL, SEOG, CWSP Federal aid programs administered through the University in the form of a loan, a grant, and work-study. Students must be full-time, degree seeking and must have completed a University Aid Application in order to be considered. GSL AND PLUS Loan pro grams available through the federal government and ad ministered through the state government. Interest rates are cur rently 9 percent and 12 percent. Eligible students must be degree seeking and enrolled at least part time. Applications available in banks. SCHOLARSHIPS Available to students with financial need and G.P.A. of 3.0 or above. Applications available in the Financial Aid Of fice from January 1 to April 1. September Financial Aid Applica tions Available. FEBRUARY 15 Suggested deadline for filing Need Analysis (FAF or State-Federal) for university aid considera tion. Deadline for Pell ap plications for current year. Senate Rule Refund Procedure Students who are eligible for refunds from grants, scholarships, loans and other financial aid or awards should contact Mr. Richard Sosnowski in the Financial Office, Administration Building, to com plete a Refund Request Form. A student who officially withdraws according to University procedure before the end of the semester may be eligible to receive a tuition refund on a prorated basis. Questions concerning prorated refunds should be directed to the Financial Office, Administration Building. It is the responsibility of the stu dent who withdraws from enroll ment in courses at Penn State- Behrend to secure appropriate signatures on an official Withdrawal Form. The official Withdrawal Form may be obtained from the Student Affairs Office. Students who register for classes but decide to withdraw without at tending class may complete the University's official withdrawal form.
