Every weekend the SUB sponsors a movie, usually at 9 pm and always in the Reed Lecture Hall. In addition to the movies, SUB has "The Amazing Johnathon" coming to perform at the Reed Lecture Hall at 7:15 on Friday, January 29th. "The Amazing Johnathon" is a magician, come dian, and juggler. Preceding the show, our own Phil Larson will perform. The cost is $1 or 50 cents with an activity card. February has another coffee house and a Valentine Ball spon sored by SUB. The coffee house on February 2, features "Rueben" (formally "New South Wales"), a contemporary bluegrass band. The admission and the refreshments are free. The Valentine Ball will be the only semi-formal dance at Behrend this year. The dance begins at 10 pm, Saturday, Feb. 13 to 2 am Sunday, Feb. 14. "Black Jack" provides the music for the occasion. For all those people who have been dreaming of the beach while the snow covers the ground, will be happy to know that the JRC will be sponsoring an upcoming, "Mid-winter Beach Party." There will be a live band, and ac cording to Doug Saltzman, "palm trees and everything." Have you ever wondered why Behrend doesn't have a big event like a concert, instead of a bunch of little activities? According to Student Activities Coordinator Chris Reber, the reason Behrend does not have a big event, is because there would not be a balance of activities to meet the needs of all the students at Behrend. If a good portion of SUB's budget went to finance a one night, big event, there wouldn't be sufficient funds for activities for the rest of the term. Smaller events take less time and money to prepare and carry out, thus events can be planned to meet the needs and desires of the Behrend community more quickly. However, Livingston Tayler will be giving a concert during Spring Week and a possible "Bat tle of the Bands" with some of Erie's groups is being looked in to for Spring Week also.
