City, State, ZIP Phone Age L CASS/NERRC PLCA Offers Intern Program The Pennsylvania Legislative Correspondents Association, an organization of state government reporters based in Harrisburg, will have a summer intern program again in 1980. Two students, who currently are juniors, will be picked for the 12-week program which will begin in late Spring. The stipend for each student will be $1,440. The program is open to students attending Pennsylvania colleges and to Pennsylvania residents who go to school out-of-state. The interns will have the op portunity to work with reporters from the Harrisburg bureaus of AP, UPI and Allentown, Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh newspapers. The emphasis will be on reporting state government news and acceptable stories will be published. We are interested in persons who plan to make journalism a career.. The deadline for applications is March 7. Entries postmarked after this date will not be ac cepted. The PLCA Scholarship Committee, will pick the interns by March 21 after personal in terviews with the finalists. We also have one $5OO scholarship available to a finalist who can prove financial need. The Army ROTC Rifle Team captured second place in the annual Professor of Military Science's Rifle Match at University Park on Saturday, January 26th. Behrend was deprived of a first place showing by only eight points, being out shOt by the University Park team who fired for 2160 points out of a possible 3000. Behrend's team score w as . 2152, the total of the top five shooters. In third place was the Altoona ROTC unit with 2052, followed by Ogontz, Schuykill Haven and Delaware County. Behrend's top shooter was Shawn Phaneuf with a 464. Shawn also took the prize for high prone score with a 184. The other four making up the team total were John Falcone, 456; Fred Gildersleeve, the Team Captain, Tony Thomas shows the team spirit that led to a victory over Mercyhurst (Photos by Lois McKean) with 424; Mark Berninger with 408 and Bill Newitt, 400. Other team members were Janice Carl who fired a 313, and Dan Scala with a 301. The match was followed on Saturday night by a banquet in Henderson Hall, after which the winners were announced and trophies presented. Colonel Robert Rose, the Professor of Military Science at Penn State, gave a brief talk on the Army ROTC program, presenting a number of facts which showed plainly that the Penn State program is among the top in the nation in terms of both quantity of commissioned officers produced and the quality of those officers. The ROTC - Rifle Team is an integral part of the Behrend JANUARY 31, 1980 College Rifle Club, which is a student organization chartered under the Student Senate and open to all full-time Behrend students. The club holds meetings and practice sessions at the Lawrence Park Rifle Club range on Nagle Road every Monday and Thursday evening, and anyone who is, or thinks he may be, interested in shooting is invited to attend. M. Sgt. Don King, the club advisor and coach, will provide transportation to and from the range. The club plans to hold an in troductory match and party to provide the student body with an opportunity to become acquainted with the sport of indoor shooting on Thursday, February 7th.
