The Behrend Players
Inge’s Picnic
by Sheri Reim
Collegian Staff writer
This spring term, the Behrend
Players performed a popular,
familiar play written by William
Inge. Under the direction of Paul
Iddings, the Players presented
the 1950’s summer romance,
“Picnic.”
First to appear on the scene
was Helen Potts (Jan Kremer),
who enjoys young people and
their activities. She is the
motherly neighbor to the Owens
family. Flow Owens (Dana
Moody), the head of the family
coped with the problems of
raising a beautiful daughter,
Madge (Linda Beals) and a not so
pretty, but intelligent daughter,
Millie (Sharon Reim). Millie was
forced to put up with the
ridiculing remarks of the neigh

(Brad Joseph) while trying to
hide her jealousy over Madge and
her college beau, Alan (Jeff
Williams). Irma Krankite (Sue
Hood), Christine Schoenwalder
(Heidi Miller), and Rosemary
Sydney (Deirdre McCauley)
were three old maid
schoolteachers all out man
hunting. Rosemary was the
fortunate one who managed to
hook the unfortunate
storekeeper, Howard Bevans
(Paul Moore). Hal Carter (Mike
Prasta) appeared on the scene
and changed every women’s
outlook on life.
The play was performed April
28, 29, 30 and May 3,4, 6, 7 at the
Studio Theatre. It was a very
successful production and the
Behrend Players would like to
express their thanks to the people
who attended.
