Baulding Entertainment Editor The Behrend College Chorus together with the Symphonic Singers of Erie presented their annual Spring Concert here at Behrend, May. Both choirs were directed by Mr. Davis P. Giersch, Assistant Professor of Music and the Behrend College chorus and band director. The Behrend Chorus per formed “Sing We” and “Chant It” It by Morley, “When Jesus Wept” by Billings, “He, Wat ching Over Israel” by Men delsohn, Three Hungarian Fold Songs (The Handsom Butcher, Apple, Apple, The Old Woman) by Seiber, “Sip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah”, and “Hallelujah Chorus” by Handel. After the Behrend Chorus performance, the Symphonic Singers of Erie performed “Honor and Glory” by Bach, “Ave Maria” bv Rachmaninoff. Religious Folk Songs (“Litany, A Hunter From Heaven”, “The Grim Reaper”, “Crusader’s Hymn,” “The Twelve Disciples”, “O Dearest Jesus”) by Brahms, “Rest” by Vaughn-Williams, “O Mistress Mine”, by Vaughn- Williams, and “Put On A Happy Face”.. The highlight of the evening was when the two choirs com bined to sing the composition “Revelation”, a composition by Mr. Giersch himself. The com position, based on the book of Revelations was indeed what the jlk JOHNSTON CAMERAS •«s«* j Kodak | Behrend Collegian members of the audience called “a truly remarkable piece.” The piece was narrated by Dean Benjamin Lane. Bob Charaos and Bruce Gamble were the per cussionists, and Bob Stewart was on the electric bass. This concert brought to an end a very successful year for the Behrend Chorus. The year in cluded a Christmas concert, four performances at local churches and a trip to New Kensington, Pennsylvania, for the second- Penn State Commonwealth Campus Regional Music Festival. Under the direction of Paul Iddings, the Players presented the 1950’s summer romance, “Picnic.” First to appear on the scene was Helen Potts (Jan Kremer), who enjoys young people and their activities. She is the motherly neighbor to the Owens family. Flow Owens (Dana Moody), the head of the family coped with the problems of raising a beautiful daughter, Madge (Linda Beals) and a not so pretty, but intelligent daughter, Millie (Sharon Reim). (Brad Joseph) while trying to hide her jealousy over Madge and her college beau, Alan (Jeff Williams). Irma Krankite (Sue Hood), Christine Schoenwalder (Heidi Miller), and Rosemary Sydney (Deirdre McCauley) were three old maid schoolteachers all out man hunting. Rosemary was the fortunate one who managed to hook the unfortunate storekeeper, Howard Bevans (Paul Moore). Hal Carter (Mike Prasta) appeared on the scene and changed every women’s outlook on life. The play was performed April 28, 29, 30 and May 3,4, 6, 7 at the Studio Theatre. It was a very successful production and the Behrend Players would like to express their thanks to the people who attended. Page Three
