To the editor:
On March 30 and 31 faculty
throughout the university will
make a decision of great con
sequence for themselves, for
their students, and for the future
of The Pennsylvania State
University. The question of
organization for the purpose of
collective bargaining will present
itself to the faculty as a choice
among the following: PSUPA,
AAUP or no representation. In
the interest of all concerned we
encourage all faculty to vote.

Letters
varying viewpoints
Dear Editor:
I could attempt to summarize a
great amount of mixed emotions
about Behrend in this premature
final address, but it gets to be all
too much. I have been suspended
from Penn State for two terms for
housing 4 grams of pot, knowing
about it, and bringing shame to
this institution. I have advised
the SUN in their investigations,
and we found little consistency in
the severity of punishment im
posed on drug-related cases. In
the past years, much larger busts
have met with much smaller
penalties.
While many state schools are
becoming increasingly liberal
and free, Penn'State has taken a
distinct 180 degree turn into out
dated attitudes on the “evils of
pot and beer.” Maybe I’m
paranoid, but it’s hard not to be,
when I’ve been shafted like no
one before. Through my work in
SGA, I have found apathy
overtaking most student
initiative to change “the
system”. But it isn’t hard; look at
other schools where students
have persuaded progressive
change in rights and regulations
(ie. Indiana, Pitt).
The administration of this
college is aware of their
responsibility to keep informed of
student dissent and will lend an
ear to your ideas. Through the
year, though, the SGA has
dwindled into a handful of reps,
that carry out the Organization’s
motions, and little else. A new
SGA executive board is being
formed, and for once, it may be
important who leads, as the
students now demand action and
adequate representation.

Trivia
by J oanne Goldberg
Collegian Staff Writer
Those faculty members with
offices located in the North
Cottage may sometimes refer
their too cold or too hot residence
as “the dog house”. This is not as
funny as it may sound. For years,
the North Cottage was the
Behrend Kennels. The most
famous canine to roam the paths
of Behrend was Bruno, owned by
Harriet Behrend, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Otto Behrend. Bruno
was a favorite of the family. At
the request of Mrs. Mary

disciplinary system, along with a
group of people this past month,
and in the midst of it, I sense
injustice. I have spent over
$200.00 for two weeks room and
board awaiting my final sen
tence. I have not yet been in
formed even vaguely of my
appeal date, and was not in
formed of my trial time until 10
hours previous. Although it was
necessary for me to give written
permission to the Behrend
Collegian to use my name in
connection with my bust, the
Office of Student Affairs needed
no such permission to release a
distorted version of the bust to
the Erie Times. The Times has
printed two stories (Thurs. and
Fri.) which wrongly connected
my roommate as a host to the
party. All this has been
publicized before my chance for
an appeal. The bust itself was
sloppy as Hell, with the Area
Coordinators confiscation of
marijuana, which under state
law they cannot touch without
themselves being charged with
possession (as they have no
authorization), unlike Security.
I could go on, but it just upsets
me. I hope it upsets you enough to
do something, if it’s nothing more
than paying attention to your
constitutional rights. I’m sorry to
leave the people here; Behrend
offers a sense of community like
no other college, and I’d like to
thank everyone for their un
selfish support. Zeke, Yogi,
Mason, Herb, and Brad also wish
to express their thanks and
farewells. We all have been given
the opportunity to start again, I
guess, but it’s hard leaving
someplace we’ve made home.
Final comment; next time you
see various drunk people puking
and vandalizing, think of the
passive pot party that will be no
more. Illegal drugs under 21: is
this fair?
