is the goal of the Behrend Radio
Club. which has begun to re
broadcast station WBCR to
Perry. Niagara. Lawrence. and
Dobbirs Halls after five months
of reorganization. An open
meeting of the Club is set today

hall. The objectives in further
organize, generate more outside
interest. and solicit some
technical assistance.

Honorary" SoCiety was held. An
election of officers took place and
the winners will be known during
the Honors and Awards Banquet
on May 10.

At 6th Annual Festival
Arts Spring forth
Although the first three days of
the Spring Arts Festival are now
successfully completed, there
remain four activity packed days
ahead.
The art and photo exhibition
will be open daily for the duration
of the festival. The art exhibit
includes works of tri-state area
artists, selected pieces from the
Erie Arts Center's permanent
collection and works from the
University Park Spring Show of
student art. The photo exhibition
includes the work of Behrend
students, faculty and staff.
The Union City Karate Club will
present a Marshal Arts
Exhibition on Thursday evening
at 8 p.m. in Erie Hall. The
exhibition will feature Steve
Capela. a 4th degree black belt

Thursday's featured film
"King Rat" will be shown in the
Reed Lecture Hall beginning at
9:30 p.m. The film, starring
Segal, Tom Courtenay and James
Fox, depicts the fight for survival
of American prisoners in the
Changi prison during the closing
days of World War IL
A highlight of this year's
festival will be a seminar on
Friday with members of the
Eastern Opera Theatre of New
York. The seminar begins at 11
a.m. and will include a discussion
of opera in America today. Mk
Opera Theatre is in Erie for a
performance of the Barber of
Seville with the Erie Philhar
monic Orchestra.
The Great American film
feature for Friday_ will be "I
Never Sang For My Father." The
drama depidts the relationship
between a self righteous father
(Melvyn Douglas) and his two
grown children (Gene Hackman
and Estelle Parsons). Show times
are 12:15 and 9:30 p.m. in the
RUB Lecture Hall.
Jazz enthusiasts won't want to
miss the concert by
"Verisimilitude" on Friday
evening. The group features.
Chuck Ventrello. and Charlie
Fisher performing - the music of
Chicorea. Herbie Hancock. Sonny
Rawlins and Stanley Clark.
SGA in act
Monday evening's SGA meeting
began with a - request by the
ROTC "Adventure Club" to
become an officially chartered
club of the SGA of Behrend
College. After a considerably
amount of debate centering on the
function of this club. a vote was
taken, and the Club's charter was
approved.
Mike Woods then suggested
that the most worthwhile project
to pursue at this point is a non
alcoholic bash, to "conclude" the
Academic year. Neither the date
for nor the area for this event to
be held have been finalized,
Ferkiss talks
"Creating Chosen Futures: The
New Meaning of Freedom in
America's Third Century," will
be the topic of a free public
lecture to be given tonight.
Speaking will be Dr. Victor C.
Ferkiss; professor of government
at Georgeown University. The
lecture will be at 8 p.m. at Zurn
Science Building at Gannon
College.
Dr.- Ferkiss' talk is being
sponsored by Gannon, Allegheny,
Edinboro, Mercyhurst and Villa
Maria Colleges in association
with Behrend College Penn State.
His talk is part of the Penn
State "Freedom: Then, Now, and
Tomorrow". Bicentennial
program designed to provide
Pennsylvanians with a chance, to
examine the nature of freedom in
American society.
In addition to public lectures,
more than 1,000 statewide Town
Meetings, films, books, and
television programs are enabling
Pennsylvanians to participate in
observing our nation's Bicen
tennial.

displays begin Friday in the large
tents on the South lawn of the
Administration building. Quilting.

flower arranging and- potter
exhibits and sales will be con
ducted throughout the weekend.
The crafts-area will be open from
noon to 8 p.m. Friday. Saturday
and Sunday.
Beginning Saturday the festival
moves outdoors for a full day of
activities.
The stage at the foot of the ski
slope will feature various rock
folk and blues groups from noon
to 8 p.m. Saturday performers
include "Point Blank". - "Tango**.
"The Eight of Us". David
Sorrels. John Settlemair. Kenn
& Smitty. Sugarfoot Minstrels.
Jerry Maki. Doug Kline. Dan
Rerraro. Gay Catania and Drew
DeCrease.
An English riding exhibition by
the Schooler family and a jum
ping exhibition by Russ Kelly will
be the focus of - the Equestrian
show. This event begins at 3 p.m.
on the soccer field.
On Saturday evening. poet Dan
McQuade will be featured at the
Spring- Arts -Coffeehouse- in the

SUB will be participating on this
project. A motion that the SGA
provide $175 to fund the music for
this bash was unanimously
passed. Details will be arranged
at the next meeting.
. After attending a staff meeting
earlier in the day. concerning the
events of Orientation week, Mike
Woods asked for volunteers to
attend the upcoming meetings,
for the purpose of providing
student input. Three or four
members volunteered to un
dertake this task.
