October 9, 1975 One win, one loss Super soccer season seen By Mark Reese Sports Editor The two soccer games played by Behrend this past week brought about one win and one loss. The meeting with Gannon on Wednesday was the one lost, by a score of 2-0. But Saturday, when It's mine! The action and competition in the game of soccer is captured by this picture of a Behrend player and opponent vying for control of the ball. It's still a cruel world By Mark Reese Sports Editor I am writing this editorial because I am angry; angry about a situation that has been brought painfully to my attention recently. The situation to which I refer is that of theft here on campus. If you don't believe there is a problem, you may be in for a jolt as I was. I naively thought that people came to college to better, rather than lower themselves, but I neglected to realize that there are rotten apples in every barrel. I hope that by my relating to you my tale some grief may be spared, and precautions taken. My first encounter was just before school started this year. I was camping in the gorge, and parked my car in the campus parking lot specifically because I thought it would be safer than on some back road. As it turns out, should have 'gone with the back road - I've done it before and never had any trouble. When I came back the next morning my tape player, and tapes were all gone and the "only thing left was the coat hanger used to break in. Then about a week ago my wallet. was lifted as I was Lit Phys. Ed. class, right out of the 'locker! These in cidents prorripted me to do some investigation, and Chief F. Johnson of Security told me some interesting facts; and a few tips for students to do toprotect themselves. Their consecutive wins streak may have been broken, but the season is still progressing successfully. The Gannon confrontation took place on the very muddy field of Gannon's under rainy conditions. belongings. Always lock your room, locker, and car! A good precaution is to record the serial numbers of any goods bearing them - typewriters, calculators, stereos, etc. If you should happen to be ripped off, the chances of recovering the object goes way up; the numbers can be put on the teletype and if they turn up anywhere you are in luck. Security also has an electric engraver that any student can borrow to put an identifying mark valuables. Report all in cidents of theft to Security, the sooner the better. If you see anyone ripping someone off, turn him in - he doesn't deserve any better - or at least tell him it isn't a good idea. It's no small matter if he is caught. Dismissal from the University, and prosecution by the authorities are his prospects. All reported crimes are investigated by Security and-or other agencies, and the success rate here has been significantly higher than averages for other areas. _ Everyone has probably been ripped at one time or another, and knows the helpless feeling of rage it brings; so just be a little more aware of your things, and not give the SOBs a chance at them. And the SOBs that hit me personally, I'd like them to know that if I should happen to get wind of who they are, then they will really have something to worry about. - Siudent Union Board Presents: -101404- KERSHAW AND = • - THE : - LOUISIANA; MEN too --- 0410 - 10- ERIE MAUL Tickets at RUB Desk 0.00 Behrend Collegian It was a fast end-to-end sort of game. Coach Lauffer said "It wasn't unusual in that game for them to bring the ball into our territory, try for a shot, and have one of our men pick it up and go for their end,' again and again. The Gannon squad surprised us somewhat with the way they cooperated together to move the ball. In the past, they have often acted like a group of individuals on the field, but not this time." The first score of the game was made on a penalty kick from right in front of our net. Their inside right was the man who did it. The second goal was made by the same man again, this time from the corner of the goal area. The Gannon team made 29 shots throughout the game, compared to our 18. Our Goalies beat them on saves, preventing twelve potential scores to the Gannon eight. Saturday took the Cubs to Indiana to play. The field there was dry, and in good condition, the weather was sunny and warm. To make the day better, the team gained a victory of 2-1 over the home team. However, they also brought back a couple of injuries. Mike Rasanauskas NYC Theatre! Care to experience the world of the New York Professional Theatre?
