Her name will be placed on the plaque in the library. Behrend's Walker Award Nominee Chosen by Georgean Gaydosh Managing Editor Nancy Lindholm has recently been chosen as Behrend's nominee for the Walker Award. Leadership, -scholarship, citizenship and service are the qualities which the committee considered when making their decision. The committee con sisted of the Chairman of the Faculty Senate, the President of the Student Government Association, the Dean of Student Affairs and the assistant director for Resident Instruction. Each commonwealth campus nominates someone to compete in the regional competition for the Walker Award. Nancy represented Behrend at the Regionals held at Beaver Campus last week. Behrend, Beaver, Shenango Vailey and Dußois were the campuses participating with the Shenango girl winning the position to go on and compete at University Park along with the other Regional winners. Nancy Lindholm, a sixth term sophomore majoring in Spanish, lives outside of Corry on a 210- acre farm. She is a 1972 graduate from Corry High School and was active in the area 4-H Club for six years. Nancy now works as a leader with the 4-H group after being sent to a leadership con ference at University Park last summer. She is also in her church choir and manages a small singing group which voluntarily sings at hospitals and nursing homes. Last summer Monsanto chose her singing group as talent to participate in a 4-H convention at Baltimore, Md., with all ex penses paid. The group may perform this August at State Days at State College. At Behrend; Naney is active in Student Union Board where she held the position of publicity chairman fall term, moving into the office of secretary of SUB for the - continuation of the academic year. She is also a typist for the Behrend Collegian, a chorus member, and has participated in girls volleyball and softball in tramurals. Nancy's interests include horseback riding, sewing, cooking, reading, and playing her piano and guitar. She would like to go to Spain to study and has applied for the Penn State Study Published by the students of the Behrend College, Pennsylvania State University program. Her future plans are to work with the United Nations or as an ambassador to Latin America or in thefield of foreign - service. Nancy's varied interests and ambitions aided in her nomination for the Walker Award which is simply an award of recognition for an outstanding Behrend student. Her name will be placed in the plaque in the library along with other - Walker Award nominees. In the past, the student who received the Walker nomination automatically became the recipient of the Turnball Award. This year has brought about a reorganization of these awards due to Behrend's four year status. The Turnbull Award has initially been established to recognize Thomas H. Turnbull, a past history professor at Behrend. Also the man of whom Turnbull Hall was named after. The Turnbull Award was to be given to any student who best exemplified these aspects of leadership, scholarship, character, aril service; the same qualities sought for in the Walker Award. The Turnbull Award was originally figured to be the highest award a Behrend student could receive. Four years ago when Eric Walker resigned as President of PSU, he established the Eric and Josephine Walker Award. This award was to be granted to a commonwealth student of high academic standing with well rounded college life. The guidelines for the Walker Award were similar to those that had been set up fOr the Turnbull Award thus Behrend decided locally that the Turnbull recipient would automatically be nominated for the Walker Award. Now that Behrend is a four year school it did not seem fair to any deserving juniors and seniors that the Turnbull Award and Walker Award should be combined. It AU students please note preregistration schedule on back page. was decided that the Walker Award would be limited to students who were not above, sixth. term standing , in order to uphold the original award and keep equal competition between the other commonwealth cam puses. The Turnbull Award is now open to all Behrend students who qualify for nomination. The Walker Award nomination now stands for almost an out standing sophomore award. Names for nomination are sub mitted by various organizations of campus and from these names the nominee is selected. The nominee then goes to regionals to compete for a position in the State Competition. The Dean of Student Affairs in the campuses involved in the regional competition constitute the regional seletting committee. Behiend has had two regional winners in Walker Award competition with one of them going on to win the Walker Award itself. Multi-Media Show to Become Party of Spring Arts Festival Many weeks of preparation will result in a special concert by the Behrend Chorus during the Spring Arts Festival Week.
