Page Four Intramural Basketball Bounces At Behrend Campus by Dave Lojewski Sports Writer Once the weather begins to turn cold, football shoes get put away and sneakers come down from .off the rack. No longer is it a game of tramping through the mud under the cool autumn skies, but now it is a contest held under the lights in a warm gymnasium. For now the mood has changed to basketball, and with it Behrend Campus has begun its Intramural Basketball League. This year’s program looks to be one full of excitement and pressure pact upsets. Not only does the league have depth, but every team seems capable of beating each other. The total number of teams for this season is nineteen; ten teams in the dorm leagues and nine in the commuter league. Each team will play nine regular season games. The contests are scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday night, beginning on Nov. 9 and running through to Jan. 30. The championship game between the winners of the Dorm and Com muter Leagues will be played on Feb. 1. There is a total of six games a night with the first contest starting at 6:30 a.m. and the last at 10:15, with 45 minutes between scheduled game times. In other games, Super Fly tic. walloped Seagram’s 8, 62-29; the Soccer Allstars—Ed Hunkele, Roger Nolan, and Mike Marsh of the past has won its division in flag football at University Park. The team finished the regular season with a 6-1 record. They now face extreme pressure in the playoffs. The talented trio of Robb Johnson, Roger Nolan, and Bob Britton propelled Super Fly Inc. * xm <«*. in Penn State; ten divisions with seven teams in each. When they did miss a shot, big Robb Johnson would haul down the rebound and gime them a second chance to score. Mike McCall didn’t seem to miss as he canned 18 points in the Genesee Giant victory. He hit from almost everywhere on the court with his excellent jump shot. Mike could-be the man to lead his team to the cham pionship. He’s a versitile player both offensively and defensively. This season started out exciting and it should continue to stay that way in the weary winter months ahead. Students are asked to participate by cheering for your favorite team.
