its timeliness.

German Film
Seen Tonight
In RUB Hall
The Captain of Koepenick
(English sound track), the second
in a series of films presented by
the German department, will be
shown tonight at 8 p.m. in the
Reed Union Building Lecture
Hal).
The movie is based on a
comedy written by Carl Zuck
mayer in 1931. The play is
ironically subtitled 'A • German
Fairytale'. The plot is centered
around an incident which oc
curred in the Berlin of Wilhelm 11
and served Zuckmayer to ridicule
German militarism.
.A cobbler, Wilhelm Voight,
tries to obtain documents
required for finding work and
fights a losing battle against
officialdom. At last he decides to
enter the townhall in the guise of a
captain, with the sole object of
obtaining a passport to leave the
country.
The arrogance of the military
caste and the narrowmindedness
of Prussian bureaucracy are
illustrated in sharply profiled
types. In Zuckmayer's hands, the
story becomes an attack on the
revival of the militaristic spirit
marking the final phase of the
Weimar Republic.

PSU To Support
Daily Collegian
University Park, Pa. Oct.
On recommendation of the
University Council, Dr. John W.
Oswald, president of The Penn
sylvania State University, has
approved a new method of
providing financial support to the
Daily Collegian, student
newspaper.
In place of an allocation from
the Associated Student Activities
budget, the University will now
purchase advertising and cir
culation services from the Daily
Collegian. The amount of money
involved is about the same in
each case, and the Collegian is
assured of needed revenue.
Continuance of the plan depends
on the Collegian Board of
Directors working out. a
satisfactory grievance procedure
for members of the Daily
Collegian staff through amend
ment of the constitution and by
laws.
The Council proposal also
recommended that the Board of
Directors devise a system of
faculty representation on the
Board other than through the
University Senate.

University and the Daily
Collegian.
"I concur in the Council's view
that maximum - separation of the
operation of the Daily Collegian
from the University is
desirable," President Oswald
wrote. "I believe the Council is
desirable," President Oswald
wrote. "I believe the Council has
established the basis for
maximum freedom and
responsibility by Collegian
Incorporated, and in this I also
concur."
