Erie Commuiity College of
Buffalo, New York defeated
Behrend 5-1 to win the Behrend
Invitational Soccer Tournament
last Saturday afternoon.
Most valuable• player, Tom
Schratz:, slammed 3 goals for the
winners while Scot Larsby and
Robin Muchow managed one
apiece. . _
Bob Jeffery scored the lone
tally for Behrend as the Cubs
could manage only thirteen shots
against the stiff Erie defense.
Behrend goalie, Ed Moore,
turned in a fantastic per
formance as he turned away 17
Erie shots. Most of the game was
played at the Behrend end of the
field as Erie flooded the Cub's
goal with 42 shots. Only great
defensive efforts by Mike Marsh
and Mike Joyce kept Behrend in
the game.
Behrend was hindered by the
fact that Jim Channus, the Cub's
captain and last year's top
scorer, did not play in the game.
Jim suffered a fractured wrist in
the Lakeland game.
Behrend reached the cham
pionship game with a 5-2 victory
over Lakeland Community
College of Mentor, Ohio in the
onening round.
The Cubs scored in every
period as captain Jim Channus
hit for two goals. Bill Hilden
brand, Denny Grace, and Chris
Moore each added a score for the
winners.
John Hoge ended the scoring
with three assists and Bob Jef
fery added two as Behrend took
thirty-nine cracks at the goal.
The Behrend defense blanketed
the Onions as they only took 9
shots with Ed Moore saving 7 at
the Cub's goal.
Chris Harrol and Tom
Snodgrass accounted for the 2
Lakeland goals. The Lakes'
goalie, Scott Adams, turned in a
fine performance in defeat as he
blocked twenty-two Behrend
shots.
In the other first round game,
champion Erie Community
College ran all over Slippery
Rock J.V. 10-2.
Tom Schratz was the offensive
giant for the Kats as he drilled a
record six goals. Rick Ramely,
Jim Trowbridge, Robin Muchow,-
and Mike Kuper each had a goal
to complete the rout over the
hopeless Rockets.
C. Shall and Eric Vanderhengel
prevented the shutout with 1 goal
apiece for the losers.

Behrend Faces
Rough Altoona
The Behrend soccer team will
play one of the biggest, most
important games of the year
against the Altoona Campus of
the Penn State University, on
Saturday, October 9. During the
past few years, Behrend and
Altoona have been the leading
powers in the Commonwealth
Campus tournaments, and this
year it still looks the same in that
respect.
This year Altoona will be led
by Captain Bob Stevens who is a
sophomore. Stevens is one of the
five returning starters from last
year's team. The balance of the
team is mostly freshmen, but all
have had at least two years of
soccer in high school. Coach
Kingon of Altoona places a great
