Women's soccer team victorious over Hilbert r THIS WEEK'S 111
The Behrend Lads' Lions ate
the Hilbert Hawks for dinner
during the soccer game on
Wednesday at the Behrend
Fields. The score was a sturdy
2-0 with Behrend ahead during
the first half and add five goals
to total seven. At the end of the
game the score was 7-0, which
left the Lions with a spotless
victory.
The Lions worked well as a
team, and at times their passes
almost appeared choreographed.
"That's kind of our philoso
phy," said senior Nikki Frisbee.
"Get the ball and play to the
white jersey. - she also said that
during half time they decided
that they needed to come togeth
er as a team more than in the
first half. This frame of mind
earned them five more goals
against the Hawks.
The cheers coming from
teammates of both teams were
abundant, from both the side
lines and on the field.
Hilbert appeared fired up in
the beginning. They warmed up
with strides and passing exercis
es, but when the game began to
progress, their confidence was

A member on Hilbert's team
was heard scolding her team-
mates not to give up during a
play.
The Behrend Lions tepped
up their game as it progressed.
"We were playing at their
level in the beginning and then
we played ours at the end,"
states Frisbee. "They [Hilbert]
didn't give up. They were play
ing hard throughout the whole
game."
Freshman
Steinsdoerfer scored two goals.
Four out of the seven goals
scored were by freshmen.
Steinsdoerfer says that the new
team members arc looking
strong. "All freshmen have got

Sophomore Caitlyn Elser
planted the second goal. She
kicked the ball and it appeared
almost certain that Hilbert's
goalie would block the shot but
the ball slipped past her fingers
and flew into the net.
Frisbee's goal started the sec
ond half off with a bang. There
were several close attempts to
get the ball into the Hawks net.

The Niagara 33 team was
now complete, and began
its one day preseason.
"What did I get myself
into." asked Jason Kurvic,
a new member of the team.
As the team finished it's
first and only practice,
they seemed to only
accomplish each others
names, and began learning
who could play where.
As the team began to
walk together back through
their hall, they were stared
down by the other kids
who had their "stacked
teams," and "dynasties."

to finish the game with
their first victory.

On Oct. 25, Behrend is sched
uled to go against Penn State
Altoona, who according to
Frisbee, is ranked first in the
AMCC.
"Hopefully this [game] will
build up for that," said Frisbee
Altoona's current standings are
6-0-1 while Behrends is 5-2.
According to the 2008 schedule,
the game will take place on the
Behrend Fields at 1:00 p.m.
A strong first half of 22
to 0 in favor of Niagara,
lead to a solid second half,
finishing the game 50-0
with another Niagara
Victory.
The team was now 2-0,
and moved up to forth in
the rankings where they
"opened many teams
eyes." said Mike DiLuzio.
In the second week of the
season, team Niagara
found themselves in a very
tough game against Sig
Tau.
"This game was a back
and forth game," said Jim
With ten
seconds left on the clock
Sig Tau had the ball on
Niagara's 30 yard line with
fourth down and ten yards
to go.

They decided to throw
the ball deep into the end
zone, which was swatted
away by the Niagara
defense.
"My heart was racing as
I jumped up with the
opposing teams player to
knock the ball down for
the win," said Barber of
team Niagara 33.
Niagara 33 finished out
their regular season play
against The Dream, who
won in a very well per-
formed game.
They then faced
Mongolian Beef, a team
that decided to drop out
late in the season giving
Niagara another win to add
to their record.
