Against La Roche, freshman Stefanie Kelley recorded a team high of 16 digs followed by sopho more Danielle Woods with 13 and freshman Liz Emerick added 10. Against Thiel Emerick led the team with 22 digs. Tuesday's game against the Fredonia State Blue Devils was televised on Image Sports Network. According to the Behrend website, the Image Sports Network can be found on channel 20 in the city of Erie and channel 13 in the county. "There might have been some nervousness with some of the players, but once we start to play then the nervousness goes away along with the cam eras." said Coach Pisano. “We were more focused on the team we were playing, then the cameras or crowd." The Behrend Lions have already been victorious against Fredonia at the Behrend Invitational in early September. The Lions swept them 3-0 in the best of five names. The Blue Devils entered the Junker Center hop ing for a different outcome against the Lions. And this time, they did just that. Athlete Spotlight: By Connor Sattely managing editor cisso6o(tf psu.edu “I know now that I'm happier here." says Behrend sophomore Jenna Fatica. “Behrend is a good fit for me." A year ago, she wasn't so sure. Fatica. who grew up only twenty minutes from Behrend, decided to enroll in the University of Akron to participate in their Division I track program. After only a year at the school, she found herself longing for a school closer to home, closer to her desired size, and with a nicer area. Penn State Behrend provided her with an answer. “It is a lot different, of course,” Fatica says. “But we all still do the best we can. and it's still a ton of fun." Fatica was selected as Behrend's Athlete of the Week for a sport she wouldn't have expected. "Track and field is my primary sport," she says. "To me, cross country was a fun way to stay in shape and keep running in the offseason." Her "offseason" has brought her a surpris ing amount of success. She has finished in first place amongst Behrend's women in every cross country race since the end of the year. She attributes some of the team's suc cess to the coaching staff and the practices that they run. “They're very tough practices, University Park cheered Derrick Williams from the stands, as he brought our very own Nittany Lions football team to a 38 - 24 win over Illinois. The quick senior put on an amazing show that has never been seen in Patemo’s years of coaching. When our No. 12 ranked Penn State let N 0.22 Illinois through the gates, we were all anticipat ing a very good game. They were the first ranked opponent of the season and the stands were packed in white-out style. Early on in the game, Illinois took the lead when running back Jason Ford made a one yard run into the end zone. Quickly after that, however, it was answered by another one yard run from our very own quarterback Darryl Clark. Towards the end of the first quarter, Illinois wide receiv er Arrelious Benn made an amaz ing catch for a touchdown. Illinois took the lead 14-7. The legendary performance of Penn State’s wide receiver Derrick Williams truly began time,” explained Ogden. "I hurt my hand on Saturday so I was trying to figure out how to play with my hitting hand being taped and everyone came out flat. It wasn't us. It's a shame it happened against a big rival but we learn from everything and it will help us in the end." Even the coaching staff welcomed her before she even stepped foot on campus, she recalls. “The coaches are like that too. they always push you to do your best. The second quarter rolled around with the score being 14- 14. It was a defensively-based quarter, with the offensives of both teams not going very far. Half the way through the sec ond quarter, Williams scored again with a five yard run, which meant that Penn State was going into the second half with the score being 21-14 Penn State. The beginning of the second half really showed the talent of the kickers. Both teams made field goals in the third quarter, moving the score to 24-17. Kevin Kelly, the kicker for the Lions, completed a 25 yard field goal and Illinois kicker Matt Eller made a 43 yard attempt. An amazing play emerged in the fourth quarter, when Williams returned a kickoff for 94 yard which scored his third touch down of the game. This expanded the lead to 31-17. According to Pisano, the Lions have two All-Conference players, senior Brittany Hennessy and junior Carissa Johnston, both out with leg injuries. Hennessy and Johnston are expected to return within a week or two. The Lions did not have much time to recover from the loss against Fredonia as the next night they were on the road traveling to face Hilbert for an AMCC conference game. Sweeping Hilbert in three games (25-10, 25-13, 25-18) improved the Lions AMCC record to 2-0. Kindle had eight kills and three blocks, Gallentine led the team with 29 assists and 16 digs, and Woods recorded seven kills and four aces. "We started off really strong, we hit the midsea son slump but I feel us bouncing back really well," said Ogden. "The whole season we've been gearing towards a win against Frostburg for the AMCC title and to host the playoffs. I think we’re getting clos er to being ready for it. We have some more games that we will use as tests for Frostburg. We have some corrections to make and things to improve. I hope we come through in the end."
