Page 6 The Behrend Beacon Meet the Candidates Scott Soltis (GAS, 06) Justin Curu CANDIDATE FOR VICE PRESIDENT played a role in designing this new structure he began a commitment to seeing all clubs fairly represented. This means that the Soltis/Curry administration can and will evaluate and adapt this structure to meet the needs of the clubs on campus. We are...focused on internally strengthening SGA to better serve all students. A major reason why the Soltis/Curry ticket was formed is our ability to adjust to change. The campus is changing and SGA must accommodate these changes. This means a re-evaluation of the SGA committee structure to make sure that all student concerns are quickly and effectively addressed. Justin Curry, left and Scott Soltis We are...ready to listen to the concerns of both residents and commuters. As a resident/commuter ticket, we have seen issues that arise on both ends of the spectrum. One way that we plan on reaching out to both groups of students is a larger role in the housing fair. This will enable us to provide students with all of their available options for an expensive part of college, housing. We are...determined to make sure all of our money is being spent wisely. While presiding as president this year, Scott has been unrelenting in his quest to find out where all of our money is going. At Penn State, we pay an astonishing amount of money and should see an equally amazing student experience. We have the knowledge and will make sure that our money is used to maximize our benefit. We are...eager to attack issues before they turn into problems. This year, Scott spearheaded such issues as a Police Services-SGA Revenue Sharing Agreement which is nearly finalized, a Judicial Branch of SGA so that club will go through a fair, student run process when allegations are made against them, and Parking, both cost and availability. Through our combined five and a half years of SGA experience, we know what we are doing and the ways we can help you. Justin has been able to compare and contrast student life at two Penn State campuses and brings a wealth of knowledge that few others can rival. Scott laid the groundwork for action in his first term and will follow through on his hard work. We are committed, ready, focused, determined and eager to make sure that everyone knows what Behrend Pride is all about. I am committed to increasing student involvement on campus, especially club enrollment and participation. As a member of LEB, SGA, IVCF, the Honors program, and an on campus job, I know what living on campus can truly be. I am new but dedicated! Let's increase Penn State Pride, and show the whole campus what real Lions are made of! Sara Grant (INTBL, 06) ANDIDATE FOR SENATOR i. This year on SGA I helped ccomplish many things, and if e-elected will continue to put orth effort to see things change. his year I worked on Student Affairs committee, the budget committee, and the THON committee. SGA is something that I'm dedicated to, knowing that we have the power and a voice to make a difference. CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT Natalie Lytle..., CANDIDATE FOR SECRETARY Being secretary for SGA has many responsibilities and I believe that I will do a good job at maintaining these responsibilities. Many students at this campus do not even know what SGA is and I plan to help the new president and vice president on working to have more students become knowledgeable about SGA and what goes on. This campus has a very low participation rate in clubs and organizations and many students do not even realize the different choices SGA or other clubs and organizations make that could affect them. overnight, but my impact on SGA will help set Behrend on the right track to a true collegiate feel. I want to see a good concert at Behrend, and not Shaggy or Sugar Ray, or some washed up second rate freebie. Behrend has the potential to make college the best four years of our lives. My name is Kevin Jensen, and I have fun (GAS, 06) „ We Are...,, As students of Penn State Erie, we have a commitment to making it a better place for all of us. As the current SGA resident, Scott has worked tirelessly for all of his fellow students and serving them to the best of his abilities. As a senator and THON veteran, Justin has the SGA and Penn State knowledge to lead Behrend into a bright future. We are...committed to improvement in SGA-Club Relations. This year we implemented a new council structure, which was designed to better represent clubs here at Behrend. When Scott Kevin Jensen (MRKTG, 06) IDIDATE FOR SENATOR , ou consider yourself the tge college student? Ok, do consider Behrend the Lge college? My guess is Changes cannot happen Kristin Zupancic IPLERID, 06) CANDIDATE FOR SENATOR SGA Frida , March 26, 2004 Tenn Sutter can boast a combined four years of experi ence on the Behrend budget committee. We each encompass a hands-on, focused experience with the budget; one year as a budget chair, and two years as treasurer. We hope to work with the newly formed councils to enhance the budget process and make it as efficient and effective as it possibly can be. The second area of focus is the Penn State Behrend Athletic students. Over 280 of Behrend students are athletes. That is an outstanding number of students who are not currently represented on SGA. Because athletics require so much time from their participants, these students are often naive to the many issues that take place on this campus. By giving athletic students a greater voice, we will be working to truly accom plish full student body representation. The third focus will be on bringing SGA's spotlight back to Behrend. Lately, there has been much empha sis placed on issues being brought down from University Park. These issues are very important and should by no means be ignored, but the true emphasis needs to lie in what is taking place here at Behrend. Behrend is the second largest branch campus of Penn State University and we are a self-supporting campus. There are many issues that face us here at Behrend that should take precedence over certain policies from Univer sity Park. Issues such as parking, food choice and cost, advising and curriculum are Behrend issues that still need looked at. The emphasis should take place in these. The last focal point is within the students themselves. The Student Government Association, as our name even implies, needs to reach out more making itself and its members more identifiable and accesible to the students that we are responsible for representing. A suggestion box should be used again. E-mails, names and faces of SGA should be recognizable to all students with greater tne. SCA should be the organization that students look to for support. not the cause of frustration. Hard work and diligence is what it will take to achieve all of our goals. However, good leadership can't be all politics. As Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, "A sense of humor is part of the art of leadership, of getting along with people, of getting things done." By carefully combining hard work, thoroughness and fun, we will surpass our goals and do our best to meet the expectations of our constituents. confronted with. Being that I am a commuter I understand the parking problem and I will do what I can to help solve it. I would like to see the price of food on campus come down and the selection increase. Also, I would like to help under-funded clubs at Behrend. Above all, I will represent the student body and listen to your concerns.
