"I was thinking about using Napster yesterday, but I do not have the XP operating system, so I have to go back to illicit operations." Jesse Kilmer MET, 08 SAF gives students their money's worth by Collin McHenry staff writer Every student at Behrend pays an activity fee of $44 with their semester bill. It is this fee that allows students to enjoy such activities as comedians in Brunos, jeopardy, movies in Reed, and the upcoming Battle of the Bands. Stacey McCoy said, "None of this would happen without the student activity fee." Money that Behrend will receive from the student activity fee is estimated at $346,293. None of this money is sent to University Park, so Behrend students are able to participate in all the events. When the activity fee started in 1997 only nine programs were funded. This year, 120 programs are receiving funding, the majority of these programs are requested by students. "Without the activity fee many of these programs would not happen. The programs that did take place, did so to a lesser degree." said McCoy. Annual Greek Fair welcomes students with tropical theme by Justin Curry news editor With only 1.4 percent of students at Behrend belonging to a social fraternity or sorority, the Greek community on campus has always worked hard to promote a positive image to those non- Greek students. An event that has been revamped to do just that is being planned for next Thursday, February 26. Greek Fair will be held in the McGarvey Commons at 8 p.m. This year's fair is a tropical theme, and will feature a Jimmy Buffett cover band, Is looking for candidates for the following positions: • Reservation Agents • Lifeguards • Arcade Attendants • Greeters • Party Attendants Flexible schedules are available! The Logan Wintergarden Series, or Music at Noon is one of these activities. This was a program that was going on without the student activity fee. It was founded by K. Logan and the Social Science Center, and received all funding from these two groups. The student activity fee doesn't replace this funding, but rather expands on it to make the program better. The Lion Entertainment Board has been in charge of keeping students entertained throughout the week. They do this by hiring comedians and showing films in Reed. The student activity fee has made it easier for them to expand on their programs in order to keep students entertained. Alex Mulfinger is one student who doesn't mind the fee. "It's just 40 bucks. I don't mind paying it. I've managed to go see enough movies and comedians to get my money's worth." "Gypsies of the Palace." Students will also be able to enjoy free food, take part in some games and have caricatures drawn This event is one where both Greek life and Greek unity is promoted," said Panhellenic Social Chair Maria Montana, PSYCH 04, "Students have the opportunity to meet the current Greeks and have a good time with them." Montana feels that there is a negative image of Greeks on campus, and that sentiment is felt due to the fact that Greek life is not a large part of campus Splash Lagoon 8091 Peach Street Erie, PA 16509 "No. Once I graduate I can't use it anymore.
