Glover, best-known for his role as the gun-toting sergeant in the four Lethal Weapon movies, is a human rights crusader who has been an advocate for. He is a recipient of the Amnesty International USA Lifetime Achievement Award for his role in the civil rights movement in Namibia, his work as a Goodwill Am bassador for the United Nations and his commitment to abolish the death pen alty. Glover is also a powerful advocate for literacy and has spoken to elementary and high school students around the nation about reading and education. He received an Essence Award and the first William Kunstler Racial Justice Award for his work on a variety of social issues. Glover attended San Francisco State and received his dramatic training at the American Conservatory Theatre's Black Actor's Workshop. He made his film debut in 1979 in "Escape from Alcatraz" and moved on to roles in - Places in the Heart", "Witness," " The Color Purple", and "Beloved." On television he played the title role in "Mandela" a cowpoke in "Lonesome Dove," and the leading character in the American Playhouse revivPl of "A Rai sin in the Sun." He narrated the Discovery Channel's special "The Real Eve," about the origin of modern humanity. Glover received a Cable ACE Award for "Mandela" and has received an NAACP Image Award.
