SGA's executive board and the majority of senators were elected at the end of last semesters. Elections are ongoing for open freshmen senate seats. Also, each club has a representative that reports to SGA, keeping the association aware of what's happening around campus. SGA meetings are held every Wednesday at 5:20 p.m. in Reed 114; all are welcome to attend. This presentation will be held on Thursday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Science 101 Knacke will describe the large telescopes that have been built recently, as well as those being planned. The latest telescopes are hundreds of times more powerful than any other built in the last 50 years and can return remarkably clear photos of the universe. East County gave P&S a description of a vehicle that left Perkins withou paying the bill and asked P&S for assistance. "I am extremely pleased about the position that I have been given. I have had one rehear sal so far and I am enjoying it," Barnard said. Rehearsals are two hours a week, but Barnard spends about half a day preparing for them. Barnard can't remember a time when he didn't like music. When he was about 4 years old, his mother introduced him to the piano. lie then riot only began to play his assigned music lessons, but he also played his sisters' lessons. Although Barnard treasured playing the piano, his interests in music have expanded. lie also made singing and music composition a part of his life. Barnard went on to earn an undergraduate degree in voice performance and a master's and doctorate in music composition. believe in what I am doing and I have a great appreciation for music, - Barnard explained. During his career, Barnard has been successful in several international competitions and has even received a commission from St. Paul's Cathedral Choir for this Novemher. Currently. he is writing a piece for the Behrend Band tor its upcoming tour in Paris. In mid-August of The Behrend College Choir, above, is only one of the ensembles Dr. Daniel Barnard directs. Barnard, lecturer in music, also conducts the Erie Philharmonic Chorus. ft .. FOCAL POINT this year, Barnard was appointed conductor of the Erie Philharmonic Chorus. In this capacity he leads lOU -120 people, ranging in age from high school students to adults in their 30s and older. Honor students from local high schools are eligible to be in the Chorus, as well as anyone from college level. 'Students welcome, if they have a musical background, to come and try out for either the Behrend Choir or the Erie Philharmonic Choir," Barnard said. This year, Barnard is trying something new with the Philharmonic. His idea is to recruit short-term members along with the long-term members the Philharmonic has always brought in.
