A Closer Look AM
Traditionally, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrated his birthday by
having breakfast with his family and friends. Behrend will again re
enact this celebration by having a Behrend community breakfast in
Bruno's Cafe on Monday, January 15, from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. This
breakfast will begin the day-long celebration of Dr. King's life.

"Celebrating a Movement Through Music," Reed Commons
ANNUAL DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING
All classes are encouraged to relocate to the Reed Commons
for the Annual Martin Luther King,'Jr. Celebration, "Celebrating
a Movement through Music" from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Monday,
January 15.
As music was a vital component of the civil rights movement,
it will also be very important in this celebration. Special guests
include Ellis Marsalis, St. James A.M.E. Church Mass Choir,
and Mary Alice Brown, as well as performances by Behrend's
Gospel Choir and Concert Choir.
A candlelight vigil will follow this program

Marsalis' has made an extraordinary name for himself in Ameri
can pop culture he sits at the head of what is referred to as the
"first family" of jazz. He is a renowned musician and jazz pia
nist. However, he is also an influential teacher. Marsalis has
helped to develop the musical Waits of many distinguished mu
sicians, including Branford, Vi'ynton, Delfeayo, and Jason
Marsalis.
Recently the subject of the PBS Black History Month special,
"Jazz is Spoken Here," Marsalis will speak on teaching musi
cians and children, and what he has learned about life through

Eberli Ensemble, Reed Wintergarden
LOGAN SERIES FEATURES EBERLI ENSEMBLE
Music at Noon: The Logan Wintergarden Series will continue
with a performance by the Eberli Ensemble on Wednesday,
January 17 at noon in the Reed Wintergarden.
Acclaimed for their talented and exhilarating performances, the
Eberli Ensemble boasts four talented virtuosos whose instruments
include clarinet, violin, cello, and piano. They present innovative
and entertaining programming ranging from the Baroque to avant
garde.
Named for the father and son craftsmen who worked in Prague
during the golden age of stringed-instrument making in the 18th
century, the group includes Evan Spritzer, Andrea Schultz,
Michael Finckel, and Evelyne Luest. The ensemble performs a
wide repertoire of Beethoven, Schubert, Faure, Debussy, Ravel,
and Stravinsky as well as young composers Michael Torke and
Aaron Jay Kernis.
Music at Noon: The Logan Wintergarden Series brings world
class musicians to the college to perform in an informal setting.
The series is made possible through a grant from the Harry A.
Logan, Jr. Foundation.

BABES IN ARMS AUDITIONS
Auditions for the Studio Theatre's spring musical, Babes in
Arms, will be held on Monday, January 22, from 6:30 - 9:00
p.m. and on Tuesday, January 23, from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. in the
Studio Theatre.
To schedule an audition time call x 6279 or sign up on the
door of Academic 145.
Both singing and non-singing roles are available, and com
munity actors are welcome to try out.
Production dates are March 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25.
