NSBE balances fashion with fun National Society of Black Engineers hosts 3rd Annual Fashion Show by Nicole Greene calendar editor On Thursday, March 31, the National Society of Black Engineers sponsored their third annual Fashion Show, entitled "Reflections of Fashions.” Featured in the program were several representations of different fashion styles as worn by today’s average student. Different themes were presented as students walked down the runway. Behrend's Reed Commons was transformed into a "Mouse ol Style” as the models displayed the latest fashions. Some of the apparel demonstrated included sleep, swim, ZBT ready for walk to 138-mile walk to raise money for Arthritis Foundation by Krin McCurdy staff w riter Once again it is time for the ZBT’s annual Arthritis Walk. Every year the brothers ol Zeta [feta lau. a social fraternity at Behrend. join together on a 138-mile walk to Pittsburgh. This charity walk raises money lor the Arthritis Foundation. This year, 40 brothers will leave from the Reed Union Building on Friday. April 7, at noon. They hope to teach Point State Park in Pittsburgh by noon on Sunday, April 0. The brothers will walk in groups of seven, each group walking in four hour shifts. At the conclusion of their walk they will be met and thanked business, dance, casual, and evening wear. Prospective models displayed a variety of garments for each category, putting on a show for a very enthusiastic audience. The show' was a great success, according to Cheon Graham, one of the coordinators of the program. The audience participation greatly influenced the success ol the show. In between presentations, contests were held that gave the audience a chance to actively participate. Some were called upon to “strut their stuff" as they attempted to glide down the catwalk. Others competed in dance contests. Everyone was given the opportunity to win prizes, as a raffle by Arthritis Foundation representatives. Mike Chase, the chapter’s philanthropic chairman, said that the fraternity "has a great time going on this walk." Whether rain or shine, the walk will go on. Chase said, "We are hoping for sun or at least spring like warmth. Walking in the rain is lough, but we have done it betore.” Safety is always a concern, but Chase stated that the brothers are careful to watch out for each other and for traffic. The ZBT Fraternity also participates in other community related projects. Some of the brothers volunteer their time at Diehl School as elementary school tutors. was held with prizes of gift passes to Tinseltown and a certificate to Junior’s comedy club for those over the age of 21. Also included in the Fashion Show was Behrend’s Dance Team who performed two dance numbers during the intermissions. The highlight of the evening was the final presentation, which was the wedding scene. In this scene, a full wedding party walked through the Reed Commons to display their wedding attire. Everyone from the bride and groom to the flower girl and ring bearer was dressed it. custom-made wedding attire for the grand finale of the fashion show. Pittsburgh This summer some are joining other Greek organizations at the Peninsula in The Walk to Cure Diabetes. Many people from the community and local businesses have sponsored the ZBT brothers in their walk. Last year the fraternity raised $3,500 for the Foundation, and they are hoping to increase their donation amount for this year.
