We would like to locus on academic issues because, let's lace it. that's the real reason all of us are attending college. We want a good, solid education from qualified professors. We think academic committees should he formed to review the status (if current professors and help in the interviewing of new professors. We will also pick up where the current administration leaves off with issues such as the student-run radio station and the student-run Web page; both are very important steps for the Behrend community. The students need to have a voice and an outlet to which their thoughts and opinions can be expressed Jen Miles / esidential candidate Aaron Braun There seems to he an unlimited num ber of great ideas coming from the voices of our student population, which shows that life here at TSU-Behrend has a very optimistic future. However, things can get better only if your voice is heard and those great ideas are implemented. I have four years of experience work ing with student government and student organizations at Penn State. This expe rience ranges from being a member of multiple SGA financial & legislative as semblies, to being a president and pub lic relations olficer of student organiza tions, and most importantly, a student with the ambition to make a good school even better while recognizing that there is more to coliege life than classes. Timothy Meyers 1 am a freshman, and I live on campus. 1 believe the Student Government should be more involved with the students of this campus. My first semester, 1 didn t think that my word on anything was that important, and that is one thing that 1 am planning on changing. If I am elected I will help work to this goal and other important goals like the way our campus looks. The campus is not bad, but it could use some improving. I am sure everyone has seen how when it rains, almost always, how the water flows away from the drains and onto the sidewalks. Also. I think we should increase -ur enrollment on campus. This and a lot more will be done if 1 am elected for senator of Student Government. Thank you for your time. Safety is a huge issue on the Behrend campus that many students are not aware of. We feel that extra measures should be implemented in the security of vehicles parked in the upper lots, as well as personal safety. There is also a large problem with parking for the residents in Perry. Niagara, and Lawrence Halls. We would like to see m '' irk lots added so that residents can use the Police and Safety lot. The prices related to housing on campus are also an issue we would lik to focus on. Many of us don’t questioi the hidden costs in our bills, but we shou Clint Skillen, vice esidential candidate WUIP IS Luu I! Jennie Ellison During my sophomore year of college, it w'as an honor for me to be a senator for the Student Government Association. Throughout my term as senator, I was able to make new friends and help the school all at the same time. I joined the Budget and Constitution Committees for SGA, where my input was expected and not denied. Through my work with SGA, I also was able to work with the Student Activity Fee. This year alone, 1 have learned several things about the school and myself because I took part in SGA. It would be a privilege to serve this organization for another year and represent the school as a senator for SGA. Melody Sherosky Being re-elected to the senate will give me the opportunity to stay focused on the projects that I am already very involved with. I am currently the SGA Public Relations Co-Chair, and I serve on the Blue Bus, Technology, and Public Relations Committees. 1 have been working hard to change the Blue Bus (next semester there will be new routes and times), to get in touch with students (through forums, email surveys, in classes, etc), and to restore communication between SGA and student clubs and organizations (if your organization has not heard from me yet, you will!). As a very active member of SGA, I look forward to serving you on next year’s SGA senate. The Presidents and their Vice Presidents tfAVE B wPIil I see the potential in SGA and the Behrend community. After being on SGA for a year, 1 want to continue working to better our community and enact change. SGA provides a voice for students on and off campus. 1 have been the Council Representative for the Lion Entertainment Board for the past one and a half years, and 1 am well versed with the workings of SGA. If elected, I will work hard to express the concerns of the student body. I will also work hard to be accessible to the students. Senators VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! Trad Hamm Chad Warren Demian Blair, presidential candidate •he future is wluit you make of it. ” A new year is around the corner. Fall 2000 will be ,ooner than you think, and it will bring with it the opportunity to make a difference; we id to seize this opportunity. We care about this school, we want to see things continue to irove, and we will dedicate ourselves to making this happen. We would like your sup port in doing so. There are many issues that we feel must be addressed in the upcoming year. Student involvement in SGA and other campus activities must be increased through the ms of the SGA. The Student Website must be used by all of the students to its full ,_ntial. Increasing Internet bandwidth for the school must be a priority. The cost and access of parking on campus needs to be addressed. Student input into the use of the Information Technology Fee needs to increase. And the needs of commuter students, which have not been addressed by the administration in the past, must be considered. We are. however, counting on the student body to confirm our ideas or bring us their own. We can accomplish nothing without the students we represent, and we intend to involve them at every step of the process. We hope to serve you in the year ahead of us. If given the opportunity, we will make you all proud to be part of the 2000-2001 SGA! _ Keenan Hansen 1 don’t think that I need to give you a long list of superficial and vague adjectives to describe to you my qualities as senator. 1 just want you to know that I want to make a difference for you in SGA. My goal is to get SGA out in the open, making a positive difference for the students, fighting for what they want to change. Come and tell me what your concerns are so I can represent you in SGA. 1 feel that there are many strong candidates running for next year and would be honored if you make me one of them. Sunny Webb I’m running for SGA senator because 1 love being active in my surroundings. Hey - my name says it all! I’m bright and Sunny and am optimistic in nearly every deed thrown my way. Not only am I happy, but I get what needs done asap. I’m sure if you don’t know me, you've seen me around. I was the girl with comrows, and red and green bows sewn into my head around Christmas time! Brighten up your day - vote for Sunny! Dawn Hartman As an eighth semester student. I feel that I can apply my valuable experience in order to help positively change the Behrend campus community. I want to support my fellow students and make Behrend a better place for future students. VOTE Matt Wiertel Student Government Association is in need of repair. Although I have not been a member of SGA for an extended period of time, 1 have become aware of areas that need to be reformed. At the current time, SGA is not a shining role model that other student organizations can mimic. But under the leadership of my self and a New Student Government, I will work to end the two-sided diplomacy of SGA. In addition, I will strive to make SGA more organized and more available to student concerns. If you are tired of waiting for changes and want to see a reform agenda implemented in SGA vote for Matt Wiertel on April 5 and 6. a y, vice presidential candidate Brandi Hovis Hi, I am Brandi llovis. I'm running for Student Government senator for the next academic year I wits voted into SGa\ this semester. I really enjoy working with issues that concern the whole student body.
