The Lady Lions’ basketball team
split a pair of games this past week
in conference play. The women
extended their winning streak to
seven games with a win over Lake
Erie College on Wednesday and then
had their streak snapped in a nailbiter
against Frostburg State on Saturday.
The women opened their week
coming off six straight wins overall
and a 5-0 record in the Allegheny
Mountain Collegiate Conference.
The Lady Lions welcomed 0-6 Lake
Erie to Erie Hall on February 3.
After a slow first half for the Lions
that saw them shoot only 12-30
(40%) from the field and 1-7 from
three-point land, the Behrend women
were able to enter the second half
with much more intensity. After
leading by just four at the half, 28-
24, the Lions pulled away quickly
after the intermission. Behrend held
Lake Erie to 5-20 (25%) shooting
from the field and held their offensive
threats in the first half to zero second
half points.
Behrend’s main contributions
came in the areas of forced turnovers
(28), assists (23-6) and three-pointers
in the second half with 4-9 from
behind the arch. Erin Phillips led the
charge with 16 points on 7-9 shooting
from the field and 2-2 from the foul
line. Also stepping up for Behrend
were Jen O’Lare with 12 points and
