Thursday, January 29, /998 Men's basketball team wins sth straight Team improves record to 11-5 by Dylan Stewart sports editor The Penn State - Behrend men's basketball team completed a very successful week, as they used hot shooting and tough defense to win their fifth straight game, and improve their overall record to 11 - 5. The Lions also moved their AMCC record to 4-1. Last night, the Lions handed Laßoche a 90 - 67 beatdown before a very enthusiastic crowd at Erie Hall. "We came out, played hard, and just got things rolling," said Emick after the game. "We took them out of their game plan, and shot the hall really well," added Emick. Jason Paloskey and Ashley Orris each had huge games, as they led the team with 23 and 21 points apiece. The two also combined for 10 of the teams 13 three - pointers, as Paloskey was 6 of 7 from behind the arch, and Orris 4 of 7. Also contributing big to the win for the Lions was freshman Ashley Or ris, who knocked in 17 points and dished out 5 assists in only his sec ond start of the season. Emick and Orris both had a huge second half, as they combined to score 29 of the team's final 42 points of the game. Emick hanged 5 of 6 three-point ers, while Orris threw in 4 of 12 from behind the arc. The two also had very solid performances from the free throw line, as Emick made 6 of 6, and Orris put threw 3 of 3. Next up for the Lions was a big game against AMCC foe Frostburg. State. The win moved the overall record for Behrend to 9-5, while also moving ahead in the AMCC to 3-1. On the 25th of January, the Lions handed Frosthurg State a defeat for the second straight time this year by a score of 72 - 56. Orris, a s'll guard from Union City, has finished as one of the top scorers in every game since being thrown into the starting lineup, av eraging a team high 18 points in the last four games for the Behrend Li- In the last four eames this week Roundup PING P ONG Sports were both Ashley Orris and Brian Emick, with 18 and 17 points, respec tively. Also contributing to the scor ing attack were Steve Hout with 15 points and Nate Wilson with 13. The Lions once again had a great day at the free- throw line to finish the game with a 14 of 17 mark. The Lions used a 15 - 0 run to close off the first half, and erase a 14 point first half deficit they had fallen into to. Bchrend used a 15 -6 advantage to take a 40 - 30 second half lead, be fore Frostburg used a 10 - 3 run of their own to claw their way back. However, the Lions matched Frostburg with a 10 - 3 run of their own to keep Frostburg at bay. Brian Emick came up with 17 points and a team high 8 rebounds, while Steve Hout came through with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Ashley Orris scored a team high 18 points, while Nate Wilson chipped in with 13 points and 4 rebounds. The Lions will next be in action when they travel to Lake Erie on the 31st of January. he has shot 15 - 32 from 3-point land, good for an impressive 47%. "We have come together real well this past week, dispite missing two (,f our starters," said Orris. Orris is majoring in math here at Penn State - Behrend, while he says that some of his favorite hobbies are hunting and fishing. If Ashley continues to shoot the rock as well as he has this past week, don't be surprised to be reading more of his name as the year goes on.
