The Lions are 10-8 heading into the AMCC tournament. Lions drop fourth by Matt Plizga sports editor Heading into the final portion of the season the Behrend men's soccer team had a chance of making the ECAC tournament. Four straight losses for the Lions have all but eliminated that hope for the young squad and left them reeling heading into the Allcgheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament. Coach Dan Perritano's Lions lost a disappointing match at Allegheny on Tuesday, dropping their record to 10-8. The 4-0 defeat was one of the few multi-goal losses for Behrend this year. Mark Huether who placed seventh in a time of 28:01 and Tyler Travis who placed eighth led the men's team with a time of 28:05. "We played an Allegheny team that was at the top of their game, they took advantage of their chances," said Perritano. Despite the recent string of losses it has been a successful year for the men's soccer team. "We have eighteen new players this year, 10- 8 is a good season," said Perritano. Now that the regular season has come to a close Behrend looks to end the year on a positive note and put the losing streak behind them. "What matters right now is that the regular season is over and we have a chance to win a championship," added Perritano. Frostburg State University won both the men's and women's championships nearly sweeping the top five places. The top seven individuals from the men's and women's races were named to the All-Conference team. in a row tournament, but they will open play against Laßoche. Behrend beat Laßoche 1-0 earlier this season. If they are able to defeat the Red Hawks the Lions will most likely have to face a powerful Frostburg State team. Frostburg defeated Behrend by a 2-1 score during the regular season. "Frostburg is clearly the favorite, they are 17-2 and have a strong team," said junior captain Travis Lang. The Lions will have to be on the top of their game to win the AMCC championships, but no matter what happens the young Behrend team has exceeded many people's expectations.
