Thomas' presentation continues
the 1997-98 Penn State Behrend
Speaker Series which is
sponsored by the Office of
Student Activities.
The Behrend Foreign Film Series
continues with "The Silences of
the Palace" on Monday, October
27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Reed
Lecture Hall. Winner of six
major international film awards,
this 1994 Tunisian film is a
visually lush and moving
exploration of the challenges
confronting North )(Mean women
in the face of ''centuries-old
traditions of sexual subordination.
The film is in Arabic with English
subtitles.
Behrend has named Lloyd G.
Volunteer tutors are needed for
the Penn State Behrend/Diehl
Elementary School Adopt-A-School
Program from now until
December 4. After school tutors
are needed Mondays, Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, and Thursdays from
2:30 to 3:40 p.m. Transportation
to and from Diehl is provided.
Tutors who can provide their own
transportation are welcome to
sign up any day(s) Monday
through Friday, for one hour,
between 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. and
12:00 - 3:00 p.m. No prior
tutoring experience is necessary.

The Honorable Judge Michael T.
Joyce will present a lecture,
"Legal Education and the Crisis
of the Judiciary," on Thursday,
October 23 from 12:15 p.m. to
1:00 p.m. in Reed 113. The
presentation is being sponsored by
the Behrend Political Science
program. Joyce attended Behrend
in the early seventies and
frequently returns to participate in
alumni soccer matches.
The Commuter Council is hosting
a campus-wide fundraiser to
support the Penn State Child Care
Center starting Monday,
November 17 through Friday,
December 5. The Commuter
Council will be collecting money
on Tuesday, December 2 through
Thursday, December 4.
