by Sara Prosser

Rebellion, secrets and forbidden
love are just a few of the aspects
dealt with in the emotionally
charged story of Camila.
Camila, which takes place in mid
nineteenth century Argentina, is
being shown as a part of the foreign
film series.
The story revolves around Camila
(Susu Pecoraro), a member of
Argentine high society. Camila
often finds herself fantasizing about
love and romance and what it would
be like. This type of thinking is
what eventually gets her in trouble.
Father Ladislao Gutierrez

is sent to Camila's village. His

The latest production from the
Studio Theater is the moving tale
of Japanese-American citizens
entitled, The Rice of Strangers.
This play is part documentary,
part staged-reading, part history
lesson. A story of a country
turning its back on its own people.
It chronicles an often
overlooked chapter in American
history: the internment of
Japanese-American citizens in
concentration camps on American
soil during World War 11.
The performance utilizes slides
and the direct testimony of the
internees. These individuals'
tales are vivid and personal. You
arrival is what eventually turns
Camila's life upside down.
Camila puts faith and trust into
Gutierrez and they become very
close friends and confidants. Their
friendship rapidly grows into
something more. Camila decides to
confess her undying love to
Gutierrez and he in turn admits that
he also has feelings for her.
Both realize that their secret love
affair will not survive or be
accepted in their village due to the
strict nature of their religion. The
young lovers decide to elope and
run away together, an offense
punishable by death.
As the town, and especially their
families, learn of their
disappearance, warrants arc issued

The five parts of the Japanese-
Americans are played by Joe
Getway, Nicole Buterbaugh,
Sonya Garlington, Bond Davis
and Dallas Skeens. Other cast
members are Robin Clarke,
Michael Angelone, Ryan
Thompson and Anne-Marie
Welsh.
The Rice of Strangers opens on
