Camila, which takes place in mid nineteenth century Argentina, is being shown as a part of the foreign film series. The story revolves around Camila (Susu Pecoraro), a member of Argentine high society. Camila often finds herself fantasizing about love and romance and what it would be like. This type of thinking is what eventually gets her in trouble. Father Ladislao Gutierrez (Immanol Arias), an ordained priest, is sent to Camila's village. His America turns its back The latest production from the Studio Theater is the moving tale of Japanese-American citizens entitled, The Rice of Strangers. This play is part documentary, part staged-reading, part history lesson. A story of a country turning its back on its own people. It chronicles an often overlooked chapter in American history: the internment of Japanese-American citizens in concentration camps on American soil during World War 11. The performance utilizes slides and the direct testimony of the internees. These individuals' tales are vivid and personal. You arrival is what eventually turns Camila's life upside down. Camila puts faith and trust into Gutierrez and they become very close friends and confidants. Their friendship rapidly grows into something more. Camila decides to confess her undying love to Gutierrez and he in turn admits that he also has feelings for her. Both realize that their secret love affair will not survive or be accepted in their village due to the strict nature of their religion. The young lovers decide to elope and run away together, an offense punishable by death. As the town, and especially their families, learn of their disappearance, warrants arc issued will he amazed and moved by what you see and hear. The five parts of the Japanese- Americans are played by Joe Getway, Nicole Buterbaugh, Sonya Garlington, Bond Davis and Dallas Skeens. Other cast members are Robin Clarke, Michael Angelone, Ryan Thompson and Anne-Marie Welsh. The Rice of Strangers opens on April 9 with a preview and performances start April 10 and run until April 13. Seating is limited and there will only be five performances.
