Speed limits go up, deadly accidents increase SACRAMENTO, Calif.-Deadly car crashes had been declining in California since 1987. During the first 11 weeks of higher speed limits, deadly car crashes have increased by more than 17 percent, an Associated Press review had. Opponents of the speed increase initiated in December and January after the federal government dropped the 55 mph national speed limit, said they expected more highway deaths. "We are thinking that it may be 8 to 10 feet in length and laced in or near the Commons, but it has not been decided" The Commons seems to be the most likely place for the refreshment cart. "This only makes sense," said Reber. "The commons is a center for student activities." "Wage employees will be able to work there during peak times," said Mulfinger. Policy number 8026 stipulates that the only place allowed to sell food products is through Housing and Food Services. This will not be a problem anymore since Housing and Food Services will be providing the cart. "One of the best ways to learn respect, compassion and leadership is through service to others." Earlier this semester, students participated in the Alternative Spring Break helping out a homeless shelter in Baltimore, MD. Graduation plans On Saturday, May 11, 1996, Behrend College will hold its Spring 1996 Commencement with Dr. Rod Troester as speaker. Participants are asked to attend with full academic regalia. Students and their families look forward to and appreciate broad faculty and staff participation. Weather permitting, the commencement exercise will be held at 12:00 noon on the Reed Lawn. In case of inclement weather, there will be two ceremonies indoors. Students in engineering, engineering technology, and science will graduate at 12:00 noon as scheduled. Students in business, humanities and social sciences, and University Park majors, including candidates for the MBA degree, will graduate at 2:30 p.m. Since we must assume only one,graduate, please plan to be in the classroom, rust floor of Erie Hall, by 11:30 a.m. to don regalia and receive further instructions. There will be a reception honoring the graduates and guests immediately following the program. In the case of two ceremonies, there will be two receptions in the Wintergarden, Reed Building. If graduation is to be held indoors, seating will be very tight, so it is important that we know in advance how many seats to reserve for faculty and staff.
