The Omicron Delta Kappa
honor society is sponsoring a
fundraiser called Wile 0' Pennies.
Proceeds will benefit the Mercy
Center for Women of Erie.
Cans for donations can be
found at the Rub Desk and in the
library for donations. The drive
kicked off March 11 and will
continue for three to four weeks.
The Mercy Center, run by the
Sisters of Mercy, provides
multiple services for women and
children in the Erie area.
"Currently, there are 12
children and their mothers living
at the shelter. There is room for
a total of 27 people," said Sister
Maryanne Bader.
The two main services that the
center has to offer are transitional
housing, usually six months to a
year, and advocacy and support
services.
The Mercy Center also offers
educational services. Some
classes discuss self-esteem and
life management. In addition, it
offers support programs,
enrichment programs, and
addictive relationship programs.
On-site child care is also
available.
The Mercy Center, founded by
the Sisters of Mercy, is located
on East 27 St. and accepts
donations.

"ODK, a junior/senior national
honors leadership society, has had
a Mile 0' Pennies drive the past
several years." said Michael
McDavid, faculty secretary for the
group.
Each year, the fundraiser
benefits a different organization.
Last year the proceeds went to the
library for books. Members of
ODK decide how to use funds
generated by Mile 0' Pennies.
"What the money will be
given to is based on the
interest[s] of those in the group,"
said Greg Davis, secretary.
The purpose of ODK is to
recognize students and faculty
who have held high standards
throughout their college careers.
ODK strives to have an
organization representative of
Behrend College.
ODK recognizes and
encourages achievement in
scholarship; athletics; campus or
community service; social and
religious activities and campus
government; journalism, speech,
and the mass media; creative and
performing ans.
There are currently 29 students
and 36 faculty members in
Behrend's ODK. These students
and faculty actively participate
with each other within the
society. To become a member,
one must be in the upper 35
percentile of their class
academically.
