Page 6 Letters to the editor: Students plan to give gift to campus To the Collegian Editor, This year, the senior class of 1996 is trying to start a new tradition. For many years, the graduating class of University Park has bestowed a class gift upon that campus. This year, we Behrend seniors are doing the same for our campus All of us in the class of 1996 will be remembered as being the first class to give a gift back to the college. If you plan on graduating in 1996, you probably have received a card in the mail that allows you to vote for your choice of the gift. That card also gives you the opportunity to donate towards our goal. This is your best opportunity to share in the same generous spirit the Behrend’s had that made this campus possible. I would like to invite the entire college community, especially the class of 1996, to the Gift Choice announcement ceremony. The ceremony takes place November 12, at noon, in the Reed Commons. p, /'_i .I ysvaP i Wk $ j sdb is -ft < j V. ■■OT >-s*i t«22i2?t 'i iff yea i fcv'ftV*- **4kTfk* 4 M v> g&Stoft '* •' Sincerely, Brian Rasmussen v. It is important to see a true coming together of cultures and ideas! I would, however, like to discuss a stunt pulled by a local church. I feel they took advantage of the planners to promote their own views about Jesus Christ. This church performed a great mime production targeted for a college audience. Afterwards, one member of the troupe stood up and told the audience it was “her duty” to tell them that if they don’t believe in Jesus’ salvation, they would go to hell and be damned-forever! I think that if they had more time, they would have passed around the collection plate. It totally disgusts me to see someone telling me that if I haven’t found Jesus, I’m going to hell. I’m catholic, not that it matters, but Ido believe in God and heaven and hell. But that doesn’t mean that the person next to me (who was Muslim) isn't entitled to their own beliefs. Give me a break - Shiloh Baptist Church was out of line! The students planning the event were in as much shock as the audience was, what could they have done! For me, college is a place where one should not be condemned for their beliefs. "GOD" knows that out in the real world there is enough condemning. I hope those that attended the dinner realize this was not a planned stunt by the planners. It was an inconsiderate step for Shiloh! I hope all remember that we should be open to new ideas. But that doesn't mean that we have entitlement to push ideas! There is a time and place for the word of the Lord to be spread! If Jesus is in your heart, GOD BLESS YOU! If Muhammad walks beside you, Asa lama lakim. If you have some guidance spiritually or no spiritual guidance, I wish you well, to walk in peace! Congratulations Harambee dinner planner! And I hope Shiloh thinks of a better way to spread the word of the Lord. I know that any GOD doesn't want to be alienated, and that’s exactly what they did to a diverse open-minded set of leaders! -Concerned Thursday, October 19, 1995 The Behrend College Collegian Published weekly by the students of The Pennsylvania State University Editor in Chief Jennifer V.
