“I came here because the
assistant director position looked
like a challenging job. The
position I held before this was
more administrative, so I didn’t
have much student contact. I
missed that,” said Jane Brady, the
new assistant director of
Admissions and Financial Aid.
Brady had worked at Monroe
Community College in the
Admissions and Financial Aid
office as a specialist. After
Monroe, Brady worked at
Edinboro University. There, she
worked as an assistant for student
affairs. This position required her
to work directly with the
Provost, with little student
interaction.
“I really missed the student
contact,” said Brady. “When the
position here [at Behrend] became
available...l considered it. I think
Behrend is a high quality
institution.”

Brady, originally from
Rochester, New York, now
resides in Erie. “I like the Erie
area,” said Brady. “The Presque
Isle area is nice.”
Brady earned her Bachelor’s
degree in Economics from the
University of Rochester and
earned a Masters’ degree in
Higher Education from Syracuse
University. Brady’s hobbies
include reading and playing
tennis.
“I am . learning new things
everyday,” said Brady. She is
also happy to be interacting with
the student body. “I like the
student contact best,” said Brady.
unthinkable. “I’d feel weird not
participating in politics,” she
said.
Julie is the Behrend coordinator
for the Committee to Elect Jane
Earll. Currently, Julie is looking
for a way to interest students at
Behrend in politics. Recently,
she has urged students to register
to vote. Julie is concerned that
because this is not a major
election, “most people will
overlook this election.”

New addition to Behrend admistration: Jane Brady, from Rochester, NY, is the new
assistant director of Admissions and Financial Aid. She previously worked at Edinboro
University.
Julie’s work for Jane Earll
includes setting up and working
booths at local events, like We
Love Erie Days, helping with
fundraisers, and canvasing (going
door to door). Last week Jane
Earll made an appearance at the
Polish Falcons Club and Julie
was with her.
Along with Julie’s interest in
getting students to vote, she is
trying to get women more
involved in politics. “There still
aren’t enough women involved in
politics,” said Julie.
When asked why she was
involved with Jane Earll and not
Joe Conti, Julie said, “Jane
brings a new perspective to Erie.
She’s different, strong, has a
solid background in law with
strong convictions. She’s
tough.”
Julie is looking for help and
ideas. If you would like to get'’
involved with the campaign,
Julie can be called at 825-8055.

Connections ready...
Plug into Ethernet
by John Rossomando
Collegian Staff
After several years of planning,
the Ethernet connections have
been established. This past
Friday, the Office of
Telecommunications finished
wiring the residence halls. Ed
Mulfinger, Director of Housing
and Food Services, said, “The
wiring in the walls are hot, so
that when people get their
Ethernet Connections, they can
hook right into it.”
Installation began over two
years ago when the buildings
were initially wired. Cables were
fed into boxes above desks in
residence hall rooms. During
this time, many delays
interrupted completion of the
connections. “A lot of it comes
down to money,” said Mulfinger.
“This year we were able to fund
hooking up to the major
backbone.”
Currently there is Ethernet
capability for 44 percent of the
current enrolled student body.

said, “As we build new residence
halls, we will hook them up, and
as the need arises and more
students are interested and want
it, we will add more
connections.”
Contingency plans exist for
wiring study lounges on campus
for laptop computers when
renovations are completed. Most
of the offices on campus are
hooked up to the main backbone,
but plans are still being made for
hooking up the Reed Union
Building.
