Plug into Ethernet by John Rossomando Collegian Staff After several years of planning, the Ethernet connections have been established. This past Friday, the Office of Telecommunications finished wiring the residence halls. Ed Mulfinger, Director of Housing and Food Services, said, “The wiring in the walls are hot, so that when people get their Ethernet Connections, they can hook right into it.” Installation began over two years ago when the buildings were initially wired. Cables were fed into boxes above desks in residence hall rooms. During this time, many delays interrupted completion of the connections. “A lot of it comes down to money,” said Mulfinger. “This year we were able to fund hooking up to the major backbone.” Currently there is Ethernet capability for 44 percent of the current enrolled student body. Most of the offices on campus are hooked up to the main backbone, but plans are still being made for hooking up the Reed Union Building. Page 3
