Page 4 by Steven R Landon Collegian Staff The elections for the Student Government Association are over and Michael Woycheck has been elected as the 1995-96 President. The Michael Woycheck and David Miller combination beat out Nicole Buther and Tom Keefe. The vote count was 162- 100. With a total of 2891 students enrolled this semester, the 268 ballots that were submitted represent a 9.3% voter turnout. Four ballots were ruled invalid and two did not have a candidate for SGA president and vice-president selected. When asked what students should expect from their administration next year Woycheck stated, "We will be extending our hand to students to welcome them to SGA and to encourage them to speak their minds about issues that concern them." Woycheck also said he will be working over the summer to familiarize himself with SGA and to begin implementing his "Internet Initiative" and exploring ideas to increase student involvement on campus. ...BHU - '''' - i'S.:',!::.:!;:.:1!.,,,.1::*''':'::'.1:.'!:E:!....:i..,!1 . :S.::!!„.:..,:iS!!::H„.„„1:11:1'ilMjJ0....RoSt"1:11.1 1 !1! ItYou aro tunvedY New president elected Dave Miller, a resident of Pittsburgh, will be in Erie at least once over the summer to meet with Woycheck, Student Activities and Student Affairs staff to plan how they will approach the new academic year and their SGA responsibilities. Miller will be the chairman of the SGA's newly created Standing Committee on Student Life. Miller said he plans to attack SGA visibility immediately next year and will be putting a flyer in orientation packets to alert incoming Freshmen to SGA and its functions. Miller also said that he will attempt to stay at least one step ahead of changes occurring within Penn State and here at Behrend. He wants to make sure all student concerns are heard and considered before any decisions that would affect student life are made. During an interview with The Collegian, Woycheck was asked how he planned to accomplish campaign promises, such as lowering Gorge prices, that SGA has no control over. Woycheck responded, "Although SGA itself There is only one you. Ms , Celebrate your uniqueness! .4°o'4 Take a walk today and \A reflect on those qualities .4% that make you special. ATTENTION Health Corner News does not have the power to change those things, we will give students an opportunity to voice their concerns and provide an organized way of voicing student concerns to the administration." With the SGA budget process on a lot of students' minds, Woycheck and Miller were asked if they felt any changes should be made in the present process. "We will continue the hearings as was initiated this year, but it is too early to talk of changing the way SGA allocates." Woycheck also pointed out that there is a likelihood that SGA will have more money to allocate next year due to the possible addition of the student activities fee. Other positions elected were the SGA senators. The resident senators will be Sharain Naylor, Roxzana Kelly, and Melissa Barger. The commuter senators will be Joe Mottillo, John Anderson and Michael Anderson. The remaining Senate seats will be filled by the Council Presidents Adam Rapp, Julie Claypoole, Brett Kocijan, Steven ' • Landon, Bruce Bennett, and Lourdes Tirado. There are four commuter and three resident senator positions that are vacant and will be filled next year as well as the two freshmen senator seats. Next year promises to be an eventful one with constant changes occurring here at Behrend. The new SGA hopes to be ahead of that wave of change and would like even better to be steering it. Time will tell if they will be able to accomplish their mission. So long to last year's SGA and good luck to the 1995- 96 body. CLEAN, decent and affordable. Efficiencies, 1 and 2 bedroom.
