Page 14 Lion Lad Musante, Reed lead women by Brian E. Gregory Collegian Staff Last night the Lady Lions ended their three game losing streak by defeating the Grove City Lady Wolverines 61-46. Megan Musante had 14 points and Becky Reed had 13 for the Lions. Emily Marini had a strong performance under the glass with IS rebounds and 9 points. Nikki Bohn also played strong in a starting role. The Lady Lions had the lead 26-25 at the break, and strong shooting down the stretch earned them the victory. With the semester break just past, the Behrend Lady Lions (6- 8) have entered a grueling second half of their season. First, a recap of games of the past two weeks. The Lady Lions first game over the Christmas holiday was an impressive 74-58 victory against Westminster on the road. Senior point guard Musante paced the Lady Lions with 20 points and Marlesse Schlott dominated the boards with 15 rebounds. On Saturday January 7, the Lady Lions returned home to Erie Hall on a bit of a win streak. In front of a crowd of 100 screaming fans the Lions mawled Alfred University 81- 56. Freshman forward Marini led the way with a double double (points, rebounds) by notching fourteen points and fifteen rebounds. Athlete of the week is a scoring machine Transfer from Clarion lights up Erie Hall by Erin Morrell Collegian Staff Brandon George, this weeks athlete of the week, is a member of the men's basketball team. George is a junior transfer student from Clarion University. Before going to Clarion, George went to Penn State-New Kensington. He also played basketball there for three semesters. There he holds the all-time scoring record with 1,220. Here at Behrend, George is the leading scorer. He alternates between shooting guard and point guard positions. On Saturday against Bethany, he scored a total of 30 points. On his second day with the team he rccieved "All Tournament" in the Buffalo State Tournament. Coach Niland said, "Brandon gives inspiration to the team, his Riding high on a three game win streak the Lady Lions began the Spring semester by heading to Waynesburg to battle the Lady Yellow Jackets. Although Schlott notched 24 markers, Behrend came up on the short end of a 73-56 score. Perhaps the most depressing game of the year took place in Erie Hall versus the Fredonia State Blue Devils. Besides just playing games over the break the Lady Lions were also hard at work developing goals for the rest of the season. Reed commented that the team was trying to work making less turnovers each game. “(Our goal) is to keep turnovers below thirteen. If you look at the Bethany game it seemed that we’d comedown the court and score, they’d score, we’d turn it over, they’d score, we’d turn it over, they’d score and go on a run.” Fonari added, ‘Tiunova's are really starting to bother me. We are trying to work on this in practice. (Also we’re) shooting around thirty percent and that makes it hard to win.” In addition to this the Lady Lions set a goal to strive for a 15-10 season record. In order to accomplish this they would need to finish 10-1 over the last eleven games. "Now that he's gotten into the flow of out offense he's really come on and become an asset," said Chad Sutton. "Not only am I a good athlete, I'm a good student. I recieved a 3.6 last semester. Despite a strong performance by freshman guard Melanie Banas (20 pts., 4-6 3- pt., 4-4 FT) and ten points each by Musante and Reed, the Lady Lions had the lead at the half, but fell 76-63. Coach Fonari seemed distressed by the loss. “We were down by one with just three minutes left to play and we ended up losing by thirteen. It was just lack of experience that killed us.” Bethany won the game at the line, making 18-19 from the charity stripe. The Bisons
