Thursday, November 10,1994 ck DUI tri Brown sentenced to jail by Erica Jones Collegian Staff Local defense attorneys and prosecutors held a mock-trial for a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charge on Monday night in the Reed Lecture Hall. Participants included: Erie County District attorney Chris McElyan from the DUI Dinner for Six Strangers by Greg Pierce Cottcglm Staff The seventh annual Dinner for Six Strangers will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17 in the Wintergreen Cafe of the Reed Building. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner includes turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie prepared by Housing and Food Service. Six to eight students will be assigned to a table along with one to two faculty members. Junior Christina Bukowski who has attended two previous dinners said, "It's nice. It's something where any student has a chance to get dressed up nice fend meet new people." Live musical entertainment will be provided by the local band 2 Girls Alone. Attendance is by reservation only and admission is free. Freshman Alicia Komidar volunteered from the audience to be the defendant. She was represented by attorney McElyan. The mock trial was sponsored by the BACCHUS club (Boosting Alcohol Conscious ness Concerning the Health of University Students). Mike Maginn, resident assistant of Lawrence Hall and member of BACCHUS and the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity said, "BACCHUS is Sigma Tau Gamma's nationally adopted philanthropy." “BACCHUS does not promote total abstinence of alcohol but students' responsible use of it,” Maginn added. Maginn is working with Patricia McMahon, coordinator of Health and Wellness Services. McMahon said, "There has not been a mock trial in recent years so we thought it would be beneficial for students to see the process.” Maginn said he was pleased with the trial but wished that attendance would have been greater.
