A farmer of this section wrote to the Pennsylvania experiment station In re gards to the apple twig blight of this and Sussex counties and received the follow lng reply: Statu College, Centre Co., Pa. June go. 18M8. Dkar Sir: Yours of the 15th Is at hand The apple twig blight, which Is probably the trouble with your trees, Is more or less prevalent every year. I have notloed It here this season, out only on occasional trees. It Is much like the blight of the noar.and like It caused bv minute bacteria. but differs from It very materially In that short tips only are affected, and not the larimr branches or the trunk. Hence tree may not only snrvlve the attacks, but may develop ltajf rult without much loss. A similar affection Is much more severe on the quince where large branches are in volved and many more or tnem, so tnat tne trees often look as though scorched by a fire. And yet they manage to make a good yearly growth and develop a fair quantity of fruit. Theorltlcally spraying with Bordeaux mixture should be of some service, but In the case of the apple and during this time of the year I think It would be of no avail. I believe you will find that your trees are only temporarily injured, but shall be glad to look the mat ter over again If find my propheoy lncor. root. Very truly yours, W. A. BUCRHOTJT. "P." Judge Albright, of Lehigh county has Just decided that when a Board of Health confines or isolates a fam lly whereln-a contagious disease ex. ists, the municipality is responsible and must supply the quartered fam ily and pay for the provisions. The board having the police power dele gated by the State, it has an nn doubted right to isolate and confine persons because of the existence of contagious diseases.
