PAGE 10 THE DALLAS POST Sunday, January 18, 2009 Lehman's Grabski is All-Stater Leanne Grabski, a senior at Lake-Lehman High School, has been named to the All-State vol- leyball team. All-State players are selected by coaches based on their statistics. Grabski is a three varsity start- er for Lake-Lehman under coach Noah Pickett. She was named an All-Conference player in her ju- nior and senior years, an All-Star by The Times Leader and Citi- zens’ Voice in her junior and se- nior years and an All-Tourna- ment player at a recent tourna- ment held in Tunkhannock. She is also a member of the travel team, “Get Real,” coached by Mick Goodwin, of Tunkhan- nock, who informed her of her selection to the All-State honor on Christmas Eve, giving Grabs- ki, in her own words, “the best gift I could have received.” She will have her picture displayed on the wall in the halls of Lake- Lehman High School next to Coach Pickett, a former All State selection. Grabski has also played for John Sorber, Mike Williams and Bruce Muchler for two years on the NEPA travel team. DALLAS TRAVEL TEAM TAKES SILVER IN TOURNAMENT The Dallas fourth grade boys travel basketball team recently took second place in the Third Annual Print Factory Christmas Tournament played at Backcourt Hoops in Scranton. The team defeated the Whittier School of Scranton, 25-14, in the first round. The Dallas team faced Our Lady of Snows Team 2 from Clarks Summit in the semi-finals and won, 25-17. Facing a tough Our Lady of Snows Team 1in the finals, the Dallas boys came up short, 18-27. Leading the team in scoring was Lee Eckert (16 points.), Paul Zblotney (14 points.), Nico DeLuca (13 points.) and Dalton Gattuso (10 points.) The team was anchored by the strong defensive play of Collin Pert, Jason Anderson, Stone Mannello and J.D. Barrett. Selenski By REBECCA BRIA rbria@timesleader.com A Shavertown woman has been named the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Field Hockey Freshman of the Year. Paige Selenski, 18, is a forward and mid-fielder on the field hock- ey team at the University of Vir- ginia where she is a freshman. Se- lenski started every game and scored 19 goals last fall during her first college season and was also one of the top-scoring col- lege field hockey players in the nation. Selenski is only the third play- er in the history of the University of Virginia to receive the presti- gious ACC title. The ACC is com- posed of the following 12 colleges and universities: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Virgin- ia, Virginia Tech and Wake For- est. “My coach (Michele Madison) called me and told me,” Selenski said. “She called me and said, ‘Congratulations!’ and I said, ‘For what?’ and I was pretty excited.” The 2008 Dallas High School graduate was a member of the La- dy Mountaineers field hockey team from seventh through 12th- grades. But she began playing the sport even earlier. “I started when I was 10 years old,” Selenski said. “Lake-Leh- man used to have field hockey camps for young girls so I used to go to that.” Selenski was also named the D1 National Rookie of the Year and a 1st Team All-American by womensfieldhockey.com and a 2nd Team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
