Volunteer Fire Co. Dallas Elementary students learn about safety The Franklin Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. kicked off Fire Preven- tion Week by making a visit to the Dallas Elementary School on Monday, Oct. 6. The first grade classes and both a.m. and p.m. kindergarten classes were treat- ed to a presentation by Maureen Oremus and Doug Farr, both as- sistant chiefs with the company. The emphasis this year was “preventing home fires” and fire safety rules were the topic of the day. “Stop, Drop and Roll” as well as “Stay Low and Go” were dem- onstrated.. The children were able to see a firefighter fully dressed and breathing air from the pack on their back so they would know what a rescuer looked and sounded like. The children received several items to take home to initiate a conversation about fire plans in their own home. A monetary donation was re- ceived from Atty. Michael Ben- dick and Oremus Construction which covered the cost of the stickers, coloring sheets, safety lollipops and “Child Finder De- cals.” A booklet entitled “Your Home Fire Safety Checklist” was pro- vided by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
