After the traditional covered dish buf- fet, President David Ide presi- ded over a short business meeting. Sixteen family mem- bers that passed away during the year were remembered in a prayer. Five births were re- corded during the year. Officers elected for the com- ing year are: David Ide, Presi- dent; Kathy Comiskey, Vice President; Willis Ide and Shir- ley Smith, Treasurers; Audrey Ide Kocher and Betsy King Phillips, Secretaries; Judy Kor- fonta, Genealogist; and Sandi May Johnson, Historian. Judy Korfonta and Sandi May Johnson presented the 2007 Edition of “The Pennsyl- vania Branch of the Ide Fam- ily.” The updated genealogy book records 20 generations of Ides, contains 1,752 surnames, historical family information, and over 600 pictures. Hers chanced off were 22 theme bas- kets donated by family mem- bers, a handmade quilt donat- ed by Barb Milkewski, and a handmade afghan donated by Ellen Macarone. The young and the young at heart were led in games by Betsy King Phillips; Sandy and Richard El- derkin led the group in song. The 2008 Ide reunion will be held the last Saturday in June at Frances Slocum State Park. Grandson of HL residents graduates Joel P. Montross is a recent grad- uate of the class of 2007 from Rio Rancho High School in Rio Ran- cho, New Mexico. There were nearly 700 members of the grad- uating class. The son of Brian and Ma- ryann Mon- tross, former residents of Har- veys Lake, Mon- tross has two sisters, Rebecca, 15; and Anya, 10. An honors student, Montross re- ceived several awards and medals at the Senior Awards ceremony in May. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was awarded the New Mexico Scholars Medal for educational excellence. The U.S. Marine Corps presented him with the Semper Fidelis Award for Excellence in Music for his dedica- tion and participation in the RRHS Marching Band, Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. He was named “Most Likely to Succeed” at the Band Awards ban- quet and was awarded the Sci-Mat- ics Academy Medal for Outstand- ing Overall Achievement in sci- ence and math. Montross Special red, white and blue cords were presented to Joel to wear at graduation for being a team leader of the “We the People” Constitution in Government pro- gram. He was selected to participa- te in the Student Legislature in Santa Fe, serving as a state senator. In the past few years, Montross has received many awards for his science projects. He is the recip- ient of three academic scholar- ships and plans to attend the Uni- versity of New Mexico to major in physics. In addition to his academic achievements, Montross is a suc- cessful race car driver. He began driving a go-kart at age 9 and has won many trophies and prizes, in- cluding a national championship. For the past three years, he has been driving a Legends race car and hopes to continue racing. Grandparents of the graduate are Carl and Linda Montross of Rio Rancho, former residents of Har- veys Lake; and Marsha Meade and Paul Meade, of Harveys Lake and Wilkes-Barre. Great-grandparents are Carl and Mona Montross of Noxen. Montross’ parents and grand- parents have all attended Lake- Lehman schools.
