Sunday, March 4, 2007 COMMUNITY THE POST PAGE 3 IVIC BRIEFS Rossetti art show exhibit begins March 4 The 26th annual Suzanne Maria Rossetti Memorial Juried Art Show will hold its winners exhibit from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at the MacDonald Art Gallery on the campus of Col- lege Misericordia. A presenta- tion of awards will begin at 4 p.m. The show features the art- work of students in grades 7-12 who reside in the Dallas, Lake- Lehman, Tunkhannock and Northwest Area school dis- tricts. The exhibit will continue March 13 through 30 during the following times: noon to 5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; noon to 5 p.m. Fridays; and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Business association sets March 8 luncheon The Back Mountain Business ssociation will hold a mem- bership luncheon meeting at noon Thursday, March 8at Irem Temple Country Club, Dallas. Guest speaker Joe Chlublicki of Jungle Computers will discuss business Web sites. Reservations are required. The cost is $10 for members and $12 for guests. For reserva- tions, call 675-9380. Festival committee to meet March 6 The Dallas Harvest Festival Steering Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 in the council chambers at the Dallas Borough Building. All interested volunteers and sub- committee chairpersons are encouraged to attend. Plans for the fifth annual Dallas Harvest Festival will be discussed. Dallas Lodge 531 olding breakfast BW’ George M. Dallas Lodge No. 531, Free and Accepted Ma- sons, will sponsor an all-you- can-eat charity breakfast from 8-11 a.m. Sunday, March 11 at the Daddow-Isaacs American Legion Post 672 on Route 415 in Dallas. The charity breakfast will benefit the Back Mountain Food Pantry and include scram- bled eggs, pancakes, hash browns, sausage, coffee, tea and orange juice. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets will be available at the door. 2007 tax bills mailed in Dallas The 2007 Luzerne County and Dallas Borough real estate tax bills have been mailed. Tax payments will be accepted at the discounted amount if paid before April 16. Borough resi- dents who did not receive a bill should contact Mark Van Etten at 675-1878 or dallasborought- ax@aol.com. GFWC Harveys Lake awarding scholarships The General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Harveys Lake is awarding $500 scholar- ships to two seniors who reside in the Lake-Lehman School District and who plan on at- tending a college or trade school after graduation. Civil War group holding dinner The Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table will hold its annual dinner meeting at 6 p.m. March 8 at Pickett’s Charge Restaurant in Dallas. Bruce Stocking will portray Major Gen. Winfield Scott Hancock during the program “Womb to Tomb.” The Norris- town resident has appeared in many reenactments and Civil War films. The Civil War Round Table holds its meetings on the sec- ond Tuesday of each month in the lower level of the Daddow- Isaacs American Legion on Route 415 in Dallas. It is not a reenactment group. Anyone interested in becoming a mem- ber or learning more about the Round Table is invited to at- tend a meeting. Reservations must be made no later than March 2. For reservations, call 256-4413. Dallas residents offered tax assistance A representative from Berk- heimer Associates will be avail- able from 10-11:30 a.m. Monday, March 5 at the Dallas Borough building, 25 Main Street, to offer residents assistance in filing 2006 local municipal and school district tax returns. Curves fundraiser to benefit food banks Curves of Shavertown will participate in the nationwide Curves Food Drive to benefit local food banks. The local facility will waive its usual service fee for any new member who brings in a bag of non- perishable groceries and joins through March 10. Author luncheon to be held April 26 The Friends of the Back Mountain Memorial Library will hold its annual Luncheon With a Special Author on Thursday, April 26 at Appletree Terrace, Newberry Estate in Dallas.
