Pizza Perfect PROMISE : Continued from Page 1 During the last 10 years, the DARE program — taught by local police departments — has pro- vided sixth and eighth grade students classes where they learn about drugs and their affects. “There was, at first, criticism of that pro- gram. Some people thought the program gave children too much knowledge,” said Tigue. “But the DARE classes also provide a very practical encounter section where the stu- dents learn coping skills necessary to say no to drugs.” Overall, the principal is satisfied with the DARE program. “We need to prepare these kids now, when they are still young, before they get to high school, before they feel like I'm too cool for this,” said Tigue. The Plant The Promise program also seems to be another effective program to help remind kids to keep drug-free. “I know I won’t take drugs, it could ruin my future,” said student Jessica Szczechowicz.
