As usual, the Lake- Lehman High School junior is starring for the Black Knights’ track & field team. After some encourage- ment from friends on the baseball team, he’s playing on the diamond this season as well. “I've always enjoyed play- ing baseball and I have a lot of friends on the team,” ex- plained Burkhardt. “They convinced me to give it a try.” Burkhardt is playing both sports with the blessings of baseball coach Brian Gorski and track and field coach John Sobocinski. By all ac- counts, he’s been a success. “He’s been a great addi- tion to the baseball team,” said Gorski. “Coach Sobocinski and I agreed be- fore the season began that we didn’t want to do any- thing to hamper Brandon's efforts to participate in both sports. He's such a gifted athlete, we thought he deserved the opportunity to do both.” Burkhardt has had a tremendous impact on the baseball team as an outfielder and the team’s cleanup hit- ter..
