This annual event was coordinated by physi- cal education/health teacher, Beth Spencer who last year re- ceived the “Volunteer of the Year Award” from the American Heart Association for her fundraising efforts. This year students jumped rope in honor and/or memory of family members, friends, and neighbors, and in tribute to the astronauts on board the Space Shuttle Columbia and their fam- ilies. Donations are still being made in hopes that the final to- tal exceeds last year’s $5,578.55. This year, GOH students (Gr. 4-8) again raised over $5,000 for the AHA. Kukosky is Dallas High School Queen. Pennsylvania’s 2003 Homecoming Queen will receive a cash scholarship plus an expense paid trip to the National Finals to compete with queens from the other states for America’s Homecoming currently Queen. Homecoming Rachel Kukosky Dewees attains 4.0 grade point average Miss Leslie Anne Dewees has attained a perfect 4.0 average for the fall semester at the University of Miami. Dewees is the daughter of Fred and Marge Dewees of Dallas, and is a 2002 graduate of Wyoming Seminary in Kingston. The freshman has been admitted into the Honors Program at the Uni- versity. Williams-Moen named to dean’s list Cecelia Gayle Williams-Moen, Dallas, was recently named to the dean's list at Clarion University for the fall 2002-03 semester. Pollock receives scholarship at Syracuse Stefanie Pollock, Dallas, a senior in the College of Visual and Per- forming Arts at Syracuse University, received the John Vincent Low Scholarship. The Senior Scholarship Program at Syracuse University recognizes outstanding students in their final year at the University. To be eligi- ble for a Senior Scholarship, students must consistently attain dean’s list status during their first three years at Syracuse. Tristan Bethel selected student ambassador Tristan Bethel, a sixth grade student at N.E. Pennsylvania, as a People to People Student Ambassador. He will be going on the Grand Canyon Adventure Program in June. This 14-day program consists of meetings with government officials, interacting with other stu- dents from around the world, learning history and new cultures, ed- ucational activities, such as visiting the Navaho Nation which is the largest Native American reservation in the country, and visits with host families.
