Library (continued from page 4) 30 Years Ago Feb. 25, 1971 CONSTRUCTION BEGINNING ON NEWBERRY PROJECT The first cluster of units in the Troup Fund's multimillion dollar condominium project at Newber- ry Estate is under construction by Mushal Construction Compa- ny, with plans for 15 units to be completed by late spring and a total of 40 units ready for occu- pancy by the end of the first year. Troup Fund, Inc. proposes to build some 400 units on their Pi- oneer Avenue property in the next eight years, at a cost of over $15,000,000. Included in the project are a private club and inn, golf course, nine swimming pools, tennis courts and several recreational buildings - including a men’s club building, women’s club building and an arts and craft center. Condominium pur- chasers will pay from $30,000 to $70,000 for their individually- owned units. The Rural Health Corporation of Luzerne County has appointed two additional physicians to the staff of the Harveys Lake-Noxen Health Center. John E. Thomas M.D., and Patricia V. Rossi, M.D., have been named to posts in the rural health center. One of the projects to be carried out at the center will be the training of new health ‘professionals capable of relieving today’s physician of many tasks he or she is currently performing. Louis W. Rubino, better known locally as “Gene,” announced this week he is seeking a nomination on the Republican slate as a member of the Dallas Area School Board. DeRemer lost his seat and council presi- dency in 1979 when a slate of candidates backed by the bor- ough Republican organization lost. DeRemer said that he will definitely run as a Republican and that he hopes for party sup- port. Mary Taylor, designer and beauty consultant, has been elected to membership in the Professional Make-up Artist Guild. Membership in the Guild is considered a great honor and consists of only 100 make-up artists throughout the United States . Mrs. Taylor resides in Trucksville, and is owner of three hair and skin care centers bear- ing her name. Marine Cpl. Dana J. Race, son of Dana E. and Marilyn M. Race of Rt. 1, Falls, recently participat- ed in the Presidential Inaugural parade. A member of the U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, he is stationed at the Marine Barracks, 8th and L Streets, lo- cated in Washington, D. C. Each year the Drum and Bugle Corps participates in ceremonies for the president and visited foreign dig- nitaries. Marine Cpl. Race is a 1976 graduate of Tunkhannock High School. Fifth and sixth graders at Lehman-Jackson Elementary marked the end of a basketball program sponsored by the school’s PTA with games that included “Boxing Ball,” in which the male coaches played the boys while wearing boxing gloves. The girls played their moms, but neither side was saddled with gloves. The program was coordinated by Andrea Mitkus and Mary Jo Nel- son of the Lehman-Jackson PTA.
