PHILS CAP UNBEATEN SEASON WITH TITLE The Phillies claimed the Major League championship June 19 with a 13-2 rout of the Athletics. The game was stopped after 3 1/2 innings due to the 10-runrule. Joel Lesinski picked up the win, going the distance. Mike Wills led the attackat the plate with a 3-run homer in the second inning, when the Phillies broke the game open. Therace was startedat 11:17 a.m. on a hazy day with rain clouds on the horizon. The wind was gusting from the west to north. The Comet race was won by Dr. John Alaimo with Ellen Alaimo, crew. Joan Williams and Jane Harter DNF (did not finish) be- cause of high winds. The handi- cap event was taken by Bob Hall and Barbara Aston, crew. Second place was won by Rep. Kevin Blaum and Beth Blaum sailing a Rhodes 19. Third place went to Dr. John Alaimo and Ellen Alaimo. The entire event was sailed over a five mile course using a series of five bouys. Pirates 8 - Avoca-Dupont 1 2 The Pirates improved to 9-1 banging out 12 hits including five doubles led by Paul Wisnieski’s two doubles. Josh Katyl, Ryan Sorber and Josh Lesinski all had doubled with J.B. Bucha adding two singles. Katyl pitched six strong innings striking out six. Harveys Lake Little League Mets 21 - Pirates 0 Eric Chimock and Dustin Kapson combined on a three hitter and the Mets pounded out 18 hits to defeat the Pirates. Chimock gave up three hits and fanned three while Kapson recorded the save with seven strikeouts. The Mets offense was led by Greg Kostrobala who had five hits and Phil Kasper who had four hits including a double. Kapson ripped three doubles while Matt Ide had two hits (triple) and Chimock added a single and double. Strong defense including a double play helped preserve the shutout. Matt Stuart led the Pirates with a single and double. T he Mets ended their championship season with a 12-2 record. DeRojas named all-star J.C. DeRojas, incoming freshman at Bishop Hoban High School from Dallas was named an All-Star at the Prestigious Keystone State Invitational Basketball Camp held at Gettysburg Collge. DeRojas was also selected as Best Point Guard by the coaches.
