He will discuss the many chal- lenges facing our health care sys- tem in the 1990's. The luncheon meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 13 at noon at the Shera- ton-Crossgates, Wilkes-Barre. Before coming to Penn State, Dr. Pearman served as Provost and Vice-President for Academic - Affairs at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. Before that he served as Dean of the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Business at Millersville Univer- sity from 1973 to 1987. Dr. Pearman received his Doc- torate in Sociology from the Uni- versity of Pittsburgh in 1966, a Master of Arts degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Fordham University in 1964, and a Bacca- laureate degree from LaSalle Uni- versity, Philadelphia in 1962. His area of expertise is organizational sociology, particularly with focus on health care organizations, their delivery systems and client rela- tionships. Dr. Pearman has a wide range of experience in education and health care. He has authored or co-authored nine books, includ- ing two books on health care, “Medicare: A Handbook on the History and Issues of Health Care Delivery,” and “The Physically Handicapped.” He has also pub- lished over 40 articles in respected journals, such as “Journal of Pennsylvania Association of Speech and Hearing,” “Journal of i Health and Human Resource Administration,” and “The Ameri- can Journal of Publjc Health.” ~ Dr. Pearman’s interest in health care has also involved member- ship on the board of Directors of WILLIAM PEARMAN, Ph.D. the Health System Agency for South Central Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania State Health Coor- dinating Council, and serving as an advisor to the H.K. Cooper Clinic for Oral-facial Anomolies in Lancaster. He was recognized by the Danforth Foundation as an’ excellent teacher/scholar, and was the first recipient of an award from the Pennsylvania Sociologi- cal Society for his outstanding contribution to the field of sociol- ogy. : The public is invited to attend the VNA's Annual Meeting, but reservations are required. Casey has ap- pointed Dr. Joseph Rogan, profes- sor of special education at College Misericordia, toa second four-year term on the Pennsylvania Special Education Advisory Panel. Rogan received his first appointment to the panel in 1986 by former gover- nor Richard Thornburgh. The panel's 15 members serve as an advisory body on special education to the state's Secretary of Education. Its membership is drawn from institutions of higher education, basic and special edu- - special education panel cation, consumer and advocacy groups, and parents of exceptional children. Rogan is the founder and direc- tor of Misericordia’s Alternative Learner's Project, which works with learning disabled students to help them succeed in college and in a career. He has been recognized for his work in special education and recently was named Teacher of the Year at Misericordia by the Coun- cil for the Advancement and Sup- port of Education.
